Bio

Christopher “Novakane” Terry was born and raised in Houston, Texas on April 29, 1984 to 16 year old Kimberly Terry. Being an only child to a single mother, as father George Oliver was not around much at the time; Christopher began to busy himself with music and performing for close friends and relatives. Childhood friends recall Chris dressing up in his slacks and church shoes to imitate one of his favorite performers, the legendary Michael Jackson. He’d entertained at family gatherings with the Smooth Criminal’s moves and knew the songs like the back of his hand.

By age 12 Novakane’s father began to play a more serious role in life, unfortunately it was short lived. In the midst of their relationship growing into what it should’ve been years prior, Kane’s father was murdered by a family friend. With his mother away at work and the pain of losing a father he felt like he’d just gained, Kane began to look to the streets for guidance which led him to get familiar with the local authorities and taught him the pros and cons of street life.

Growing up in, what many know as, The Dirty South or the 3rd Coast, Kane, now 16, took a liking to a popular style of rap music, Freestyling. Rappers no longer wrote down their lyrics, but rather came up with their rhymes off the top of their heads while listening to the music. Two years later, after spending much time with a friend at the studio of a neighborhood dj, Kane had mastered the art of freestyling and had now made numerous underground CDs with other local artists. August 5, 2002, while still battling with his love of hustling and music, Kane became a father and his daughter instantly became the highlight of his world. Feeling the pressure of now having two mouths to feed, Kane returned to the streets, unfortunately, leaving him with an addiction to Promethazine, on which he later overdosed. The near death experience caused Kane to reevaluate his life and goals. He swore to himself, his family, and most importantly, his daughter, to take his music more seriously and leave the streets behind him. At age 21, Novakane debuted his first EP with features from popular artists such as Houston’s Lil Flip, Trae the Truth, and Big Pokey to name a few. Unfortunately, Prince of the City never made it to shelves due to complications with management. Disappointed, but not allowing his dedication and commitment to waiver, he continued to push and release music in the underground circuit. Returning to the music scene after a few years, a now 28 year old Novakane has just completed new project Betrayal produced by long time friend Kalani Ware. With this being his first project released with mainstream distribution, disciplined and determined Novakane is on the path to become a living legend and one of the best to do it from the south.
