"Novakayne - The New Black"

Novakayne - The New Black - 4 of 5 Stars

The debut EP from the new promising band Novakayne is so full of energy that you could light up the neon signs in Las Vegas with it, they play modern rock with roots in the 80?s like a hard rock version of Cheap Trick with guitar parts that reminds of Thin Lizzy.
Yeah you heard it right, listening to this Atlanta based band feels like being tossed around in an avalanche of powerpop/hardrock and modern rock-ish AOR.
I do like their rough sound because it?s not so overproduced and polished, the ballad "Tears me up" belongs on a 80?s AOR soundtrack and I wonder if the band were a bit influenced by Loverboy when they wrote the upbeat "9588".
The opener "Who are they" is nothing but a smash, a real killer track - I can?t believe bands like Novakayne exists today!
I la-la-la love this.

"Novakayne w/Uncrowned"

This local group gets around town and everytime I look, they are playing with another killer band on tour. I hadn't heard anything much beyond what's on their Myspace page, but knew they were quite popular in the local scene. Singer Novox was wearing a black shirt with skinnny 80's looking tie and commanding the mic. They came out hitting pretty hard on the tunes and had the crowd rocking as the room was steady filling. I was impressed with their live preformance and thought they carried a professional appearance during the set.

Bio

Bourne out of the battle worn city of Atlanta, a place where the scene is ruled by Metal and R&B, comes a band who transcends the monotony, doom & gloom and self-righteousness of today's popular music. Power, passion, stage presence, songwriting and musicianship form the foundation upon which Novakayne builds their growing underground army. Combine the vocal melodies and guitar hooks of great 70's and 80's bands like Boston and Journey with the rhythmic power and precision of today's hard rock, throw in the flair and charisma of Motley crue, and you have Novakayne.

Novakayne has shared the stage and/or toured with the following bands:

36 Crazyfists, Burn Season, City Sleeps, Fight Paris, The Feds, the Underwater, Lynam, Bobaflex, Lennex and dozens more.
