Omaha rock band Naked Sunday was six month into recording its new self-titled album when disaster struck. The eventual two-year recording process was abruptly put on hold when all tracks at their home studio were lost. The band had a decision to make. “We decided that if we we’re going to finish we might as well go all out and do it right,” says Naked Sunday frontman Jason Mayer.” That meant heading to Lincoln to work with Tim Kechly at Fuse Studios. Drummer Ian Wenzel had a family connection with Kechly, and what started as a recommendation quickly became a positive, collaborative effort. They brought in John “Honeyboy” Turner to play harp, Julia Cortinas on accordion and backup vocalists Kris Mayer and Deepa Roa Buss. Mayer says that the delayed recording sessions actually benefitted Naked Sunday, allowing the band to put more energy into molding the album. Based out of Omaha NE, Naked Sunday is a gritty, guitar-based rock band with a knack for a catchy hook that will keep their songs stuck in your head for days. With a wide range of influences ranging from blues, to rock, to even red dirt, everyone is sure to find something they will enjoy.
The band has found instant success playing locally at bars, parties, weddings, and fundraising events and has had several songs receive airplay on local, as well as some national radio stations. They are in the process of recording their first full length studio album, which will be available on November 6th 2015. One 6 song EP is currently available for download online.
Band Members include Jason Mayer (singer/rhythm guitar) Wyatt Mason (Lead Guitar) Ian Wenzel (Drums) and Neil Hults (Bass Guitar). All members have previous experience in the music industry. Jason is formerly of the band Chasing the Sun, Wyatt is formerly of the band Perdition, and Ian has played with several bands over the last 12 years, including work with The Dynarides, Basement Stuff and Park Street. All of these bands have had local success playing around the Midwest for a combined 20 years of playing experience.
Some of the bands major influences are the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Three Doors Down, John Mayer, Pearl Jam, Led Zeppelin, Weezer, Neil Young, and Cross Canadian Ragweed. They mix all these influences well and have an undeniable uniqueness to them, which is rare in the music world today. Their live shows have also created some rumblings and are quickly gaining the reputation of “can’t miss.” With their high energy and crowd involvement fans leave raving about the experience.
