Interview by Jeanne Thomas

MUEN: How did you all meet up, and how long have you been together?

NOYZE: Don Lynch and Kyle Menges had been together for about 7 or 8 years going through numerous singers, bass players and drummers trying to find the right combination of "noyze".I was introduced to them in march of 2006 by Tammy Payne who had posted an ad for them on the web.
I had been out of music for about 10 years and wanted to get back at it. .They had 13 songs and really have a great guitar sound and work real well together ,no volume wars here. The fact that they refused to play covers also appealed to me. We then went through 2 more singers and 2 more bass players over a 4 month stretch. I convinced them we needed to record the material and worry about other players later. After the songs were in the can I told them about Joe Decelle who I had worked with a few years earlier in the band "market field" here in phoenix. He came over to my studio to check out the tunes and was hooked, I burned him a copy and he immediately went to work writing. Noyze has been together for a little over a year now.
The band is Joe Decelle on lead vocals & bass guitar, Kyle Menges on lead guitar ,Don Lynch on rhythm guitar and Dave Durham on drums.

MUEN: What else can you tell us about the band, and how would you describe the music scene in your area?

NOYZE: Noyze is the most laid back band you could ever hope to be in. We can write songs at will, its amazing how easy the songs come together. As far as the music scene in phoenix there are a lot of great bands and talent here.Phoenix also has produced some great bands from the past Alice Cooper, The Tubes ,Gin Blossoms, Flotsam and Jetsom to name a few. We are working on doing some shows with Tone Cast another band from Phoenix that is on some of the bigger net radio shows we're on.

MUEN: Your songs have great lyrics - who writes the songs and what is the inspiration behind them?

NOYZE: Joe Decelle writes all of our lyrics, usually myself ,Don and Kyle come up with the music and present them to Joe who then writes to the feel of the music. When we did the first cd all the tracks were finished, he wrote to existing music and did an excellent job, I might add. .The guy is just amazing and he and I have a great deal of respect for each others talents .Don and Kyle provide an awesome guitar sound to work off also.
The new cd "further in" went real well as far as recording goes and by last August 8th more songs were in the can .I called Joe on a Tuesday and told him I was going to Dons and that we were going to write 3 more songs for him,. I'm sure he was thinking yea right sure you are. .By the next Tuesday the rhythm tracks were done,. those songs are "no way home", "in coming" and "darkest hour" Even Joe was amazed at how quick they came together.

MUEN: Are you looking for a label or are you happy as an indie band?

NOYZE: We formed our own label "TAN BANANA RECORDS INC." in hopes we would get picked up for distribution and retain at least part of our song rights. The indie band scene is really starting to take off, now we are heard all over the world not just by our families, friends and local following like it was just a few years back.
Don't get me wrong we are open to all offers it takes big money to go national and that is our ultimate goal.

MUEN: Do you have any endorsements and/or do you use any equipment exclusively?

NOYZE: We currently have no endorsement deals, but would consider all offers, we do use some equipment exclusively but we aren't plugging them just yet lol.

MUEN: What was it like opening for L.A. Guns at the Whisky A Go Go?

NOYZE: It was awesome that was our first gig as a band and we also released our fist cd "NOYZE VOL.1" there.
To play on the same stage as "THE DOORS", "ZEP" ,"VAN HALEN", just to name a few was a real kick in the ass to say the least. That's hallowed ground there at the Whisky. On the trip over to LA we had a blow-out on one of the trucks, it took us an hour to get the spare tire down to change it ,but nothing was going to stop us from that gig .I had a 29 inch tympany drum in the back of my truck and usually people think its a webber grille, we were getting gas in Indio and this dude walks up and is checking it out, it turned out he played tympany for the LA symphony, way cool.

MUEN: Have you gotten any radio play? what stations can we request you on?

NOYZE: Right now we are getting played on over 50 internet radio stations. The biggest being BROADCASTASYLUM.COM with over 500,000 listeners, Doc and Jade have been big supporters of NOYZE for almost a year now, also a big shout out to Ashley& Dora the producers of the show.
Radiogetswild.com in the UK is doing a great job for us as well, we received a gold music award from them being chosen from over 20000 submissions in 2007 to finsh in the top 8 for the year.
Big shout outs to the Scott and Pam show, Cygnus radio,k45rocks,new music - MUEN E-ZINE

Bio

From the beginning, some 15 years ago, long time friends Don Lynch and Kyle Menges seemed to be joined at the hip when it came to guitar playing. Somehow, the sound of the twin guitar slayers always seemed to mesh well and brought to mind memory’s of some of the legends . . . Harrison and Lennon, Betts and Allman, But seriously, they do compliment each other quite well. The twosome honed there skills thru the years playing with various singers, drummers and bass players, but nothing seemed to really fit with their style. Then, in March of 2006, thru a mutual acquaintance they were introduced to one of the pieces they needed to finish this puzzle they had started years earlier. Dave Durham hails from Indy, and carries around a reputation of being one of the most versatile drummers slash percussionist that has ever graced the Phoenix music scene! With influences the likes of Bill Bruford, John Bonham, Buddy Rich and a score of many other greats, Dave thru the years has developed his own unique style. Whether he is laying down drum tracks for another musician in Japan, who heard his music on “Myspace”, or pounding out a “Zepplin” cover with some buddies at a house party, people can’t help but be blown away with his confidence, skill and utter domination of the drum kit! When initially being told of the guitar duo, Dave was hesitant to jump on board due to the lack of a bass player and vocals, but after hearing the “tone” generated by Lynch and Menges, Dave felt the potential was too much to turn away from, and decided to go for it. The search then ensued for the right bass player and singer to fill in the missing pieces. After four months, two bass players, two singers, the project looked as though it might lose its momentum and come to an untimely end. But not willing to give into defeat, Dave convinced Don and Kyle to start recording the material they had been working on with the hope that their sound might attract the musicians they were looking for! In early October 2006, the first tracks were laid down in Dave’s home studio. During mix down of the first track, it became even more apparent that they really did have something special! By the time November had rolled around, Dave had contacted an old friend and ex band mate, singer and songwriter, Joe DeCelle. Dave had worked years earlier with Joe in the band “Marketfield”. Joe DeCelle has been in the music business for quite a few years and has fronted some very successful rock bands in the Phoenix area, as well as pushing his own solo career to a success. Joe heard what they had laid down, and immediately went to work writing the lyrics. , and by mid January 2007, eleven songs were in the can! “NOYZE”, the self titled debut CD was mixed down and mastered just in the nick of time, as the band received a call to open up for “L.A.Guns” at the world famous “Whisky A Go Go” in Hollywood Ca. What a great venue to debut the band and have a CD release party! Needless to say the concert was a success and met with great reviews from industry insiders! The band has now made the finishing touches on their follow up CD “FUTHER IN”, and is now working on their live show. They are also concentrating their efforts on the internet, and satellite radio scene. “NOYZE” music can be downloaded on most any of the internet sites and is soon to be heard on Sirius Satellite radio.
