The Studio de la relève, located in Rosemère, produced the first album by local group Nöyze, who have been involved with the Studio since their participation in the 2011 “Paroles et musique” competition. This is milestone for the nonprofit organization, whose mission is to prevent kids from dropping out of high-school, in that the Studio can also now help local youngsters who want to attain professional status as musicians.

Note that this album is the sixth to be produced by the Studio de la relève and its founder Christophe Danetz, the five previous CDs having been produced in connection with the “Paroles et musique” competition. Entitled "From Here on Out," this album in particular is distributed by HMV. Over the years, the Studio de la relève has improved its facilities, and now offers a professional-quality recording environment.

"I congratulate you for this wonderful accomplishment. Your commitment to youth and your generosity have demonstrated that success is the result of hard work. It also shows how much young people can achieve and how they can contribute to the improvement of Quebec’s economic health,” said Rosemère Mayor Madeleine Leduc at the album launch last November.

Nöyze, who played a few of their songs at the event, is composed of five members: lead singer Adrien Harvey, Alexis Danetz on guitar, Chester Alarie on bass, Louis-Philippe Poisson on keyboards and Matt Roots on drums.

The album "From Here on Out" was conceived so that the songs could be “played on a single guitar around a campfire,” said Adrien Harvey. "We like working together. This is more than a band, it’s a family! I hope this comes through in our songs; we’re pleased with our album," he added, thanking the Studio de la relève for having produced it.

This is an ambient rock album with character. It is a great achievement for this group on the rise. Every member of the band contributes to the songwriting: "We play around with our influences (Pink Floyd, Kings of Leon, The Beatles ...), with sounds, we spill our guts ... everybody has a say in the final decision-making and everyone has to be satisfied, " said the members of the group.

"Often artists are forced to go elsewhere before being recognized at home. With our professional production facilities in place, we can help emerging artists from Rosemère. I would be pleased if the network of concert halls in the region could be opened up to help promote the up-and-coming generation of musicians from the area!" said Christophe Danetz, who also encouraged more young musicians to take advantage of their facilities. "We would love to help them with their own albums!" he said.

Both the culmination of an artistic project and the pursuit of a social commitment were celebrated on Monday with the launch of “From Here on Out,” the first album by the group Nöyze.

If the group’s name sounds familiar, it is probably because you have read about them in these pages before. We often talk about these musicians who all live in the area and, in addition to making their mark on the music scene (the group won the Emergenza music competition in Montreal in 2013), have been associated since 2011 with Rosemere’s nonprofit Studio de la relève to whom we owe “Paroles et musique.”

This competition, held in high-schools across the region, gives students the opportunity to write poems which are set to music by local musicians such as Nöyze. According to Studio de la relève founder Christophe Danetz, participation in the competition is an opportunity for students to have a fulfilling and positive experience in school, thereby contributing to a reduction in dropout rates.

For Mr. Danetz the launch of this album is also proof that his Studio can now provide an environment fit for all up-and-coming musicians who have reached a professional level in their artistic development.

From Here on Out
The album contains ten songs, all in English. Singer and guitarist Adrien Harvey fronts a band which combines the talents of guitarist Alexis Danetz, bassist Chester Alarie, keyboardist Louis-Philippe Poisson and drummer Matt Roots.

All of them are excellent musicians, who have developed a simply structured, atmospheric rock sound. A song’s basic melody is first created on the guitar. Then, everyone adds his own contributions (especially noteworthy are the solid drums and languid guitar solos). They “play around” with the sounds and moods until they all agree that it feels right.

The main focus of their lyrics is the idea of change and revival - that both personally and in relationships, sometimes we have to move on.

"We wrote songs that can be played on a single guitar around a campfire. We strum a few chords, add the vocals, share ideas. Everything is done democratically and as a group," said Adrien Harvey. Guitarist Alexis Danetz added that the same dynamics work within the group in the studio. "We all like the same old music, he said. We are not special effects enthusiasts. What you hear on the album is what we're capable of playing."

Looking for fans in their own back yard
Naturally, the members of Nöyze want to expand their audience as much as possible, but they aim to play as many shows as they can on the local scene. "So many artists have to go outside the region to establish their careers - it would be great if they could do the opposite. After all, there are a lot of promoters and venues in the area," argues Christophe Danetz.
