- NETLABELS & NEWS

"From Barcelona with a Brazilian kiss _ NSISTA"

Back in 2000, two Brazilian sisters- Marise Cardoso aka DJIIVA and Amarilis Vitale arrived in Barcelona and were instantly blown away by the electronic music scene that was taking the city by storm.

Together they formed NSISTA, a band whose sound has been influenced by their travels around the world. Their Brazilelectro beats have evolved over the years reflecting the years of crossing borders and genres. Like stamps on their passports, their music is a unique collage of samba beats layered over lush electronic arrangements and experimental sounds cascading in the background. Their look consisting of recycled materials such as plastic bottles and bottle caps form post modern head pieces which reflects their do it your self attitude.

On this particular Sunday night - NSISTA holds center court in an old convent turned cultural center on the border of the Born neighborhood. The hipster crowd below them- can’t stop moving their heads and hips to the sambatronic beats radiating from the speakers. They stand center stage in an open courtyard, bathed in hot pink light and transmitting love for their fans.

The neighbors however, don’t seemed too amused by the weekend festival which is now on its 15th edition, was created by MARISE and aptly named PULGAS MIX. A flea market based concept, that has over taken the space with artist, musicians and fashion designers from all over spain. The goal of the festival is to share the talent in an incubated center for people to touch and hear the pulse of Barcelona’s art scene.

When not producing music, or organizing festivals NSISTA also lends a hand and signature sound to bands such as Macaco, Ojos de Brujo, Brazuca and Matraca that turn to the duo when looking to brazilify their sound.

"NSISTA e a força do candombé 2.0"

FEMELEK 2010
Events in Barcelona - Festivals

Written by Aisha Prigann
Wednesday, 03 March 2010 14:51

When I first came to Barcelona, I fell in love with the spirit of its creative underground, a colourful and optimistic energy born from people from so many corners of the world coinciding in the same place at the same time, eager to get things off the ground for inspired and pure reasons. Much has changed since then, for better and for worse, but luckily we still have Marise Cardoso and her collaborators keeping that original spirit alive.

Marise Cardoso might be the hardest working talent in our local music and cultural scene. No, scratch that. She might be the hardest working talent on two continents as her creative endeavours take her back and forth across the Atlantic, building a bridge between her native Brazil and Barcelona, which she has called home for the past decade. Musically, Marise Cardoso, aka DJIIVA, has collaborated with bands like Macaco and Ojos de Brujo as well as with her sister Amarilis Vitale in their project NSISTA. She also works tirelessly at shaking up our local cultural scene, making it richer and more innovative with every project she embarks on, from Pulgas Mix to FEMELEK.

Spanish version:

- BARCELONA internet BLOG _ Aisha Pringann_ 2010

"Weekend Music Tip 03"

They make music. They're women. And both bands were started by sisters. But that's pretty much where the similarities between Brazilian/Barcelonan sister act Nsista and Japan's pop-punk band Shonen Knife end.

Marise Cardoso aka DJIIVA pops up on this blog a lot, and it's because she is one of our most dynamic, local, creative forces. Besides creating nsistaevents like Pulgas Mix and FEMELEK, Cardoso is also a musical multi-talent, magician of electronic beats and masterful DJ. In 2007, she embarked on a new project, Nsista, made all the more special by being a sibling labour of love. The second half of Nsista is singer Amarilis Vitale Cardoso, a classically trained vocalist who also plays several instruments. The Brazilian sisters have an irresistible sense of rhythm and a musical repertoire that takes a little from the many places they've been, which makes for a decidedly cosmopolitan, tropical mix. They have two gigs this month, this Friday at Can Ferraiuolo (the bar of a true Barcelona institution - Yolo, the unforgettable ex-doorman of La Paloma, Pulgas Mix, Lola, Nave 9/10 and countless underground parties that blend together in a blissful haze) and on May 29th at the FEM ART festival at the CCCB. - BCN internet BLOG _ Aisha Pringan_2010

::::: english version :::::

NSISTA

Two women, voices of different shades, organic beats, playing live digital and analogical percussion; in a forceful spectacle, with scenic interventions and total integration with the crowd. Remixes of its influences by brazilian roots, but with the cosmopolitan touch of ones that have traveled the world.

Marise and Amarilis _ NSISTA sisters _ are always touring between South America and Europe (Barcelona based) and Asia, performing in festivals like SOTX, the China International Industry Expo and Music Festival in Beijing (April 2014), Rec Beat (BR), Fusion Fest (DE), Glocal Fest (CH), Visa pour la Image (FR), Iris Feest (BE), Universo Paralello (BR), Latino Power Fest (CO), Med Fest (PT) and many others.

Their audiovisual performance is an explosion of colors, in a female powerful music, full of good vibes, created by 2 special minds. NSISTA embark on creating music that reflect tradition whilst transforming it into something completely original and new. Multiple languages, afro - latin rhythms, electronic urban beats, beautiful costumes, futuristic make up, contemporary dance, magic scenography, full of the artists unmistakable joy and optimism.

The sisters were born in a house full of records _ their father is a vinyl collector _ and began to experiment with classical music at a very young age, studying in conservatories, playing in orchestras, singing in choirs, rock bands and Djiing in Brazil and Barcelona.

Since their first single CABOCLA (with remixes by Dj ClicK and djiiva*) from 2009, their music has faced excellent critics and impressive repercussion between many acclaimed DJs from the world.

Released through the 189MHz platform, NSISTA s music is the lucid expression of two musicians who understand that in order to create a new language and launch it into a globalized world, one must first forge a strong connection to one's roots.

Music, lyrics and costumes 100% hand made by NSISTA.
