Nyla Jay – Never Felt Better
Tell us about where you are from and how you got to this position today:
We are currently based in Dublin Ireland. We started out as a collaboration between myself J. Catala (a music producer based in Spain) and Kat Fleming,an establish Irish Singer (who previously has recorded material for MTV Ireland). I previously had been working on other music projects in Spain however one day It occurred to me that what I really wanted to achieve was to try something completely different that I had never under taken before; and in a way endeavor to reinvent the concept of modern popular music. That’s when I came up with fresh new electro pop sound that is “Nyla Jay”; which combines electro beats with melodic pop melodies. When I came across the stunning strong vocals of Kat Fleming, that’s when the concept of ‘Nyla Jay” really came to life for me, as I didn’t want to let a singer of her caliber escape from my creative vision so I contacted her immediately and we’ve been working together ever since.
What are you currently working on and what can we expect to see?
Well we are quite a new project: having been together for less than 5 month’s, we have just completed recording our first 11 tracks in the studio and are now heavily involved in the promotion process. Hopefully you will be able to see much more of Nyla Jay around in the future in Europe and the U.S.
What is one of the most drastic changes you’ve made about yourself in the last year?
Well for myself as the producer, the type of music genre I’m doing at the moment is new territory of me, as I previously had been involved more with rock projects.
Tell us about one of the hardest challenges you had to face in the industry?
The hardest challenge is when you’re starting out as a relatively new project and trying to make a name for yourself, considering there are so many other talented artists around in the industry trying to do the same.
What was one of the biggest set backs in your career and how did you bounce back?
Our biggest set backs so far has been making the mistake of working with people who were never really that committed to the project to begin with. Thank god we’ve changed that now and we ‘re presently working with a fantastic team of very committed people that really believe in the project and are willing to work hard to achieve results.
What are some things artists need to be careful of?
Artists need to be careful with whom they choose to work with in the industry. They are a lot of people that around that are full of empty talk and promises, which they don’t always follow through and ultimately waste your time or even worse money. Artists should also be very cautious of what contracts they’re getting into to; especially when dealing with agents and promoters.
What would you spend a million dollars on?
As a producer I would spend it on investing in the best people in the industry to work with.
What was your biggest risk taken in your career?
My biggest risk as a producer has been turning my back on the rock music scene which I had been heavily involved with for over a decade and moving more onto more popular electronic music.
What suggestions do you have for other artists like yourself?
Don’t give up, stay focused on your music and be really persistent. Most importantly be prepared to work really hard and be willing to try everything.
What are the best ways to sell your products as an artist?
Believing in your project and focusing on creating great quality music that your fans can relate to, in that way; you should always be able to find your market.
What is one of your favorite ways to promote yourself and your music?
Our favorite way to promote our music is without a doubt; playing live and meeting and connecting with fans in person.
