"Stream Nylo’s Indigo Summer Mixtape"

Nylo, the Los Angeles via Chicago singer whose debut EP impressed Nas and Mac Miller last year, will release a new mixtape, Indigo Summer, for download tomorrow. Hear the entire tape—a crisp vehicle for Nylo’s sweet but clear-eyed voice with beats from “Ride” and “Baby” producer Tricky Stewart, Jhene Aiko collaborators Fisticuffs and Nylo herself—a day ahead of its official release below. There’s more where these come from, too—expect another tape, Indigo Rose, this fall.

"Nylo "Indigo Summer" Mixtape"

Last March, Nylo released Memories Speak, a free project that introduced her Aaliyah-esk sound to the world. Today sees the release of her follow up EP, Indigo Summer, which she describes as “the re-introduction of color" into her life.

This ethereal re-introduction boasts production by Nylo herself, as well as Grammy award-winning producer Tricky Stewart, Soundz, Fisticuffs, Cash, Boogie and 55 Billion. The 7 track EP is a wake up call for those who remain unfamiliar and a great appetizer for her next project, Indigo Rose, scheduled to drop this fall.

Bio

Every few years a talent emerges that can shift the course of music. It’s something different. It’s powerful. It’s moving. And Chicago songstress Nylo has positioned herself to be at the forefront of music’s next shift. With one of the most beautiful and original voices of the past 30 years, Nylo is poised to be the next star from Chicago’s current musical renaissance. With a sound that can be best described as ‘Hybrid R&B,’ Nylo’s unique brand of music includes elements of rhythm and blues, hip-hop, EDM and classic soul.

Nylo’s journey started in Chicago, where she began to write, record and perform music at an early age. After teaching herself to play piano by ear, Nylo, who was mesmerized by the sounds of gospel, would sneak into a neighborhood church to practice on their pianos after hours, because there wasn’t one available in her family home. On a whim and thanks to the urging of a friend, Nylo began performing in smoky Chicago bars and nightclubs that she was far too young to be in. Her style resonated with the crowds, and the soulful gypsy bounced around the country for a few years before landing in Los Angeles.

The self-taught musician began to make waves in the City of Angels, where she quickly caught the attention of industry insiders and critics. Her debut release, a free project entitled Memories Speak, hit the internet in spring of 2012, and was a surprise hit. The album passed through the hands of some of music’s top tastemakers, and landed on a handful of ‘Best Of’ year-end lists. She garnered comparisons to Aaliyah and Lauryn Hill, and was called music’s best-kept secret. Nylo, however, won’t be a secret much longer, as she counts stars such as Nas and Mac Miller as fans and supporters. Nas even called Nylo his “favorite new artist.

Over the course of the past year, Nylo has been holed up in the studio crafting two new EPs, to pick up where Memories Speak left off. Each project has a different vibe and feel, so expect one to impact in the summer (Indigo Summer), while the other will hit in the fall (Indigo Rose). With Indigo Summer on the horizon, Nylo describes the project as “colorful and vibrant, with a different tone than Memories Speak.” She also thanks her fans for being patient, and is beyond excited to share her new music with the world: “I’m
so happy, and the feeling is indescribable of how excited I am to share this piece of music with the world. I’ve spent the last year of my life working on it, and to be able to give it out and share it with people is a feeling I can’t explain. I can’t wait for the world to hear it.”
