"NYpoleon Warms Up"

http://www.firstcoastnews.com/life/entertainment/news-article.aspx?storyid=113469&catid=19.

Trinidadian R&B singer NYpoleon has just released his debut album The Warm Up here in the States and it's an interesting take on the genre.

Mixing soca and maybe a little bit of reggae into his grooves, The Warm Up is fueled by island influences that make this record a laid back killer. Sure some of the record sounds like mainstream American R&B and there are equal doses of club floor fillers as well as ballads, but when it gets all tropical on us, The Warm Up is something different.

NYpoleon tends be at his best on his clubby tracks. The beats and grooves just kill and his deep tenor vocals lay over them with the right attitude to give them just enough punch to make them viable. "Pimp-a-Fyin," for example, is a legitimate hit and it's bassline is just massive. It's the sort of track that just makes the floor vibrate and everyone's feet just do things they don't even know how to do.

While I'm not really a fan of ballads, NYpoleon almost convinces me of their value. He lays it on thick when he slows things down you can almost feel the sensitivity and positivity this guy sings about. "Always Be Around," is so sweat drenched and passionate that if doesn't get this guy a girl than there's no hope for humanity.

NYpoleon's The Warm Up is a pretty good effort. It's an album filled with a good mix of grooves and beats as well as silky smooth vocals that will keep the dancefloor packed and your car speakers working overtime.

"NYpoleon: The Warm Up- Music Review"

http://www.hotindienews.com/articles/2008/07/0002.php.

R&B artist NYpoleon delivers a solid effort with his debut album "The Warm Up". The Trinidad raised, New Jersey transplant skillfully blends elements of soca, reggae, and hip-hop into the twelve track album. "Pimp-a fyin", the first single and opening song, is an uptempo club-banger with its hypnotic synths and a guest appearance from up and coming rap artist 2Dyverz. "One Last Time" may be the stand-out song of the album, as NYpoleon is able to showcase his diverse vocal abilities over a smoothed out, bass-driven instrumental. His ability to ride the beat with ease allows him to be compared to a young Usher.

NYpoleon shines on the two true ballads of the album, "Always Be Around" and "Destiny". His songwriting is fairly generic as far as R&B songs go, yet the listener is able to feel the passion in his voice. His vocal range is impressive for a young R&B artist. The album falls flat with a few annoying tracks, such as "Stop Frontin", "Scoop You Up", and "Creep Drop". These songs are clearly under-produced, while 2Dyverz’s bland lyrics and at times irritating voice take away from an otherwise solid debut.

NYpoleon has the ability to become a successful R&B artist as long as he surrounds himself with talented artists and enlists skillful producers behind the boards. "The Warm Up" is a deserving title for his first album, allowing this developing artist to iron out the kinks in his music and figure out what works best for his unique style and delivery.

"A vocal burster to watch out for"

According to his MySpace, NYpoleon is not the average artist. Coulda' guessed that from the way he spells his name! This New Jersey singer nails his R&B roots down while still making time to have hip-hop like beats that make for some good club songs. His political stances, comical attitude, and ability to serenade, make NYpoleon a vocal burster to watch out for. He's also a very determined man, using his own money to record his first CD. Now he's on a label and promoting his current album, The Warm Up. Listen to "Get Loose" below.

Welcome to the Future!
The next BIG thing of R&B is here! What do you get when R&B, hip hop, soca and reggae are mixed together? The answer: NYpoleon. Born in Trinidad, then moving to New Jersey as a teenager, this up and coming R&B singer is influenced by a wide range of artists. These include Luther Vandross, Michael Jackson, Boyz II Men, Bob Marley and The Notorious BIG. “I love R&B, but I was also influenced by Caribbean music, so it only made sense for me to incorporate all these elements into my sound”, says NYpoleon. It is this blend of genres that allow NYpoleon to truly stand out from his peers. He has been singing and performing music since age 6 and led his church choir as a teenager in Trinidad, becoming known as a dynamic performer and actor. Growing up, NYpoleon used music as a relief when faced with harsh challenges. This also explains why his songs are so real because they all express his true feelings and experiences.

NYpoleon is currently promoting his debut album “The Warm Up” which is being distributed nationally by the well respected independent distributor giant Select-O-Hits. “I called it “The Warm Up” because I’m still growing as an artist. Every song that I write is better than the last one”, says NYpoleon. “The Warm Up’ has been a huge success at college radio, being the most added on the CMJ Hip Hop Adds Chart in August. It was added to over 125 radio stations in the US and Canada so far! A fine mix of club bangers, ballads and mid-tempo tunes, the album also received positive reviews from a number of publications, including The Essex Journal (NJ), URB Magazine, First Coast News (Jacksonville, Fl) and Hot Indie News. His heartfelt ballad “Always be Around” and club banger “Pimp-a-fyin are legitimate hits, with the music video for “Always be Around” receiving over ½ million views on youtube in its first 3 weeks. NYpoleon is currently planning a regional tour to promote the album.

NYpoleon has also faced with a lot of challenges in his life, from his childhood in Trinidad where he saw many of his friends killed or locked up, to surviving an almost fatal fall head first, which left him hospitalized and in critical condition. Although still mentally scarred from these and other experiences, he would later physically recover with a new purpose to life. “After being through all I’ve been through, it’s easy to have a negative perspective of life. But I now believe my unfortunate experiences happened for a reason, and that is for me to share my story with the world. My music is my therapy. It heals the wounds and my fans feel my pain. It’s real” says the 6’3” R&B singer. Now seeking his true purpose in life, he decided to move to New Jersey to pursue a music career. He used his own money and recorded several songs and mixtapes, which created buzz on the streets and led to a role in the independent film “Demo”. Continuing from these successes, he continued recording new material, which led to his debut album “The Warm Up”. Every so often an artist comes around that goes against the norms and turns the industry on its head. NYpoleon is such an artist. You can look forward to seeing this young star shine for a long time to come!
