Bio

NOT YOUR QUEEN'S ENGLISH aka #NYQE is a high energy, Blues-Rock & Garage "Power Quatro" from New York City. The band is comprised Guitarist-Vocalist ALEX YACOVELLI, Guitarist DARRELL DUMAS, Drummer RICK MARTINEZ, and Bassist LAUREN STOCKNER.

#NYQE's music is loud and drives hard, in the true spirit of Rock N' Roll. Their writing draws from the dynamic between American / British Blues & Rock Music, thus the name. Major influences inc: Zeppelin, Foo Fighters, Chris Cornell, QOTSA, Chuck Berry, Jack White, Eagles, The Vines, The Hives, Weezer, Green Day

Gigs have included: Mercury Lounge, Arlene's Grocery, Pianos, The Bitter End, Sullivan Hall, National Underground, Matchless Brooklyn, Don Pedro, The Delancey, Fontanas, and more. Yacovelli also participated in Weezer's Hootenanny Band as part of their finale at Madison Square Garden in 2008.

The band features NYU Steinhardt grads Yacovelli, Dumas, and Martinez, as well as Berklee guitar grad Stockner. Yacovelli originally linked up with Martinez when a classmate tipped him off that he was a solid drummer. Dumas was a neighbor from across the hall, freshmen year. Yacovelli later met Stockner at a gig in Union Square, where she was wailing on an electric axe. They hit it off over a mutual love of Zepplin's John Paul Jones bass lines, and the rest is history...

Influences include: Led Zeppelin, Soundgarden, Chris Cornell, Tom Morello, Audioslave, Neil Young, Dave Grohl & The Foo Fighters, Paul McCartney, Pixies, Queens of the Stone Age, Jack White & The White Stripes, Dan Auerbach & The Black Keys, Nirvana, Toadies, MUSE, Stone Temple Pilots, Velvet Revolver, GnR, The Beatles, Hendrix, The Vines, The Hives, Green Day, The Rolling Stones, Lenny Kravitz. among others. And of course, the classic Bluesmen like Willie Dixon, Howlin Wolf, Robert Johnson, etc.
