Feeling a bit camera shy

Okoye Gordon (pronounced O-KOI-YAY) formed the group “Destined 4 Greatness”; which was later changed to YAY ON DEMAND, in 2008, after he searched for an outlet to showcase his musical abilities.   After growing up in the drug ridden streets of Durham, North Carolina; this young man found solace in writing, singing, and creating music.
Gordon, better known as OG EA$T, is the middle child of three sons; all of whom were born into a traditional family.  Having to provide for his children and their mother; OG’s father, Edward, was rarely in the home due to taking on multiple jobs in the city.  EA$T’s mother, Shalini, played an eminent role in his life.  While single-handedly taking on the daunting task of raising three sons, Ms. Orr also battled drug addiction.  Even with hardships, Gordon’s parents kept their boys in line, out of mayhem, and armed with at least their high school diplomas .  EA$T’s mother was well aware of the power that music had, and so she exposed her sons to music while in the womb; later manifesting as a career in music for her second born son.  Okoye would sing ballads around the house, with his older and younger siblings urging him to “shut up”.  If Okoye wasn’t creating “noise”, those familiar with his behavioral norms would assume that he was ill.  By the age of 13, Okoye fell in love with writing, and composed poems.  Influenced by great performers like Chico Debarge, Michael Jackson, Wu-Tang Clan, Jay-Z, Bone Thugs N’ Harmony, Nas, Goo-Goo Dolls,  and The Script; EA$T later turned his poetry into rhymes and raps. A blend of southern charm, lyrical substance, humor, and mind bending metaphors; OG EA$T boasts a unique sound.  In 2014, OG began performing in several of the local Battle Rap leagues, but later decided that his first love is creating music.  Staying true to that, Gordon, took an extended leave from work so that he could focus on striding toward his dream. He continues to work diligently toward becoming a notable artist by remaining diverse and consistent. A wise man was heard to say that, “Maybe it’s time to stop doing what I want to do, and start doing what I was meant to do.”  OG EA$T understand’s the pull that you feel when you know what you should be doing, versus what you do just to get by.
