"Oakcee - We Play It First"

Our very own Saviour of Breakfast, Ed Smart was the first to give Oakcee airplay here in the UK. After the play of his song we had this communication from him:-

“I would like to say a very special Thanks to you, it was awesome, I felt so much joy listening to my first ever UK radio airplay on RWS, when Blackstreet came on air I realized why you said that I’m gonna like the first 2 songs before mine, brilliant:-).Your show was like you said, entertaining, good humoured and fun to listen to.”

Oakcee will be joining Ed and Rob live from Switzerland on the BIG Breakfast Show between 9-10am on Saturday 7 November. Here’s some info that you might like to see about this up and coming young man.

Time” which was released April 2009 on Cdbaby and online digital shops like, iTunes, Amazon, etc. has been receiving tremendous feedbacks from his growing fan base not just because of the rarity of this genre
in Switzerland but also because of the special vocal style and melodious voice of this new HipHop/R&B sensation.

Oakcee’s hit Singles”This Girl” and “Middle Of The Nite” recently made their radio debut on Swiss Radio DRS 3 on the friday evening programme ”Black Music Special”, where the presenter Sascha Rossier described
the newcomer as Switzerland’s own version of Akon.

Born Okey Collins Anioke and raised in Nigeria by a staunch Catholic family. Oakcee attended Sacred Heart Seminary High school at the age of ten, where he discovered his singing talent while singing gospel
songs in the very reputable Seminary school choir. His early exposure to gospel songs and later influences like, Boyz II Men, Blackstreet, Bob Marley, Mariah Carey and contemporary R&B artists like Joe, Akon inspired an intense passion for singing and songwriting.

Oakcee later moved to Switzerland after graduating from College, and rekindled this passion for singing and songwriting. He recorded scores of demo songs, worked and performed with diverse local unsigned
artists and met producer Matthias Hillebrand in 2007. After a few years of hard work, taking vocal lessons in London and Germany, he was finally able to record this debut EP CD titled “Time” produced by Matthias Hillebrand in collaboration with beat composers from Switzerland, Germany and USA, featuring talented up and coming artists from Switzerland and Austria. At the Swiss Gospel contest 2008 final, while performing with Lori Glori gospel band (www.loriglori.de) an established Soul/Gospel singer from San Francisco, USA, he was so marvelled by Lori’s amazing voice that he told her that she sings like Mary J Blige and Lori said in reply ” Oakcee you see that’s the point, you don’t sound like anyone else and that’s what makes you unique” Wow!

The six track EP CD “Time” is true reflection of this unique and impressive vocal style and has continued to receive very positive feedbacks from his growing fan base. The song “This Girl” has an incredible smooth catchy melody that stays on the mind and tempo that keeps the club jumping alongside “Sexy Girl” and “Never Let U Go”. ”Middle Of The Nite” is an amazing romantic love song for every lady. In “Heartbreak” Oakcee sings a sad but beautiful love song and delivers a vocal performance that is simply amazing.“Time” is a complete package you don’t wanna miss.

"More Of Oakcee's Music Talent In 2011"

As the festive season pulls to an end and we get down to the serious business to welcoming 2011, we must not forget to celebrate the successes and musical acts of the preceding year. One such act is Okey Collins Anioke or Oakcee as he is better known.
This contemporary R&B artist, Oakcee, was born in Nigeria where he spent most of his formative years and where he attended seminary school. At the time, he felt a strong desire to become a priest. His calling would later change as the love of music ushered him towards a new path. He moved to Switzerland in his late teens and decided to dedicate greater attention to his newfound musical passion.

From his background of singing gospel songs, Oakcee has moved on to predominately romantic ballads. He credits much of his creativity, in particular, his songwriting and singing influences to the musical styles of artists such as Bob Marley, Blackstreet, Mariah Carey and BoyzIIMen. This is partly why his sound and lyrics are very evocative of American artists like Babyface, 112 and Brian McKnight. He has even been described by some as the “Akon of Switzerland”.

In the past few years, Oakcee has worked hard to produce his debut album. He brought out his first CD entitled Time in 2009. The six-song EP contains with two collaborations and one added instrumentals track for “This girl”. The Time EP received positive reviews in Switzerland and the United Kingdom, and was aired by local radio stations in both countries.

In 2010, and in spite of a minor knee injury requiring medical attention earlier in the year, Oakcee remained dedicated to working on his latest musical project. Working with the Swiss filmmaker, Jörg Hennecke of York Productions, the auditions were to commence in Zurich this past summer for a music video for the song from his album.

He has some interesting beats, especially for the song “Sexy Girl”. Other songs including “Never let you go” follow the traditions of established hip-hop styles overlaying the ballad with rap, while “Heartbreak” with its soothing piano instrumentals has all the elements of a classic heartbreak song, ‘…I think of all the times we had together.’

It is likely we will be hearing a great deal about Oakcee in the future. His music has all the qualities to attain new levels in the contemporary urban music scene and includes a twist of something that is uniquely his alone to claim. Currently, Oakcee continues to work on his debut album which will be released in the near future in Switzerland.

"Time EP"

Oakcee obviously enlisted some of Switzerland’s elite to craft his list of hits, because the music is very well
produced. When you add Oakcee’s smooth vocals and very catching melodies, you have a very solid effort.
Songs like “Do Tha Thing” are worthy of some serious radio and club spins, although the lyrical content lacks
creativity, Oakcee’s vocals and music make up for that.

Overall, if you like Akon then you’ll love Oakcee. - IAE MAGAZINE
