"Chester's new hot property"

Next tuesday will see the return of Obelisks with a revitalised, sharp new sound, and return to the scene hitting the ground running. I've had a listen to their new tracks on myspace and all I can say is nothing-I was gobsmacked (sic)

It's a rare and welcoming occasion when I hear a local band brandishing a sound of such maturity and craftmanship-their songs suggest years of experience and development and their recordings are some of the best I've heard locally, I hope they recreate them with such effectiveness live. They'll probably hate me for saying their sound is akin to early Muse but imagine that with the panoramic soundscapes of Oceansize and the feet moving beats of Klaxons and a good description of their music is close. Bio

Deep in a hypodermic dream, at the back of junky autoclaves Obelisks are plotting the end of history, the full glottal stop of civilisation in whispered mirror shards and long black rivers, filled with the carcasses of a thousand gods a millennia and last summer ago. Their explosive manifesto has unraveled across the country over the last 2 years since they were formed in a filmic haze of brittle distortion, ghostly euphoric electronica and choruses big enough to be seen from space; their style an intoxicating blend of profoundly varied sounds, ranging from the futuristic beat based cacophonies of Klaxons, The Knife and Nero to the pathos ridden siren calls of Wild Beasts and radiohead, whilst taking in a whole phalanx of inspirations in between. It is their aim to be the biggest underground success of the decade, release the finest debut album of all time and annihilate civilisation before exploding in a conflagration of literature, mirror shards and junk tinged bodily fluids… with live shows that fall somewhere between a maoist riot and a nightclub at the end of the world, support shows with Lightspeed Champion, Succioperro and Gallops as well as upcoming slots with The Joy Formidable, this band have long been considered by those in the know one of the north wests' finest underground band and simply have to be seen to be believed.

We believe in the catalogue model catwalk of ruined psychotherapy couches and hope you do too, come worship at the altar of Obelisks...
