"OE sets the tone!"

Feb 25, 2007 8:50 AM
For those who might have had the musical pleasure of hanging at the Roseland Theater in Portland, Oregon last night, please join me in a collective... WOW! There were a number of great performances and some, honestly, that should have stayed in their garages but the most solid, professional, mature and well played set of the night exploded out of a Vancouver base band called O'Brien's Enemy. OE absolutely ruled the night. The 20-minute set may have been too short but it was also way tight and well constructed. It was the first and only time of the day/night that not a person was sitting on the floor, nearly 300 flipped out, gone crazy fans pushed, dances and moshed their way to the stage. OE's jaw dropping performance was strengthen by the Roseland's state-of-the-art sound system and excellent light show. As with all great bands (SOD, Rage, Chili Peppers, etc) no one-person makes it happen. It's hard to point out how great any individual OE performance was because this was clearly a collective effort. This band of brothers included Chris "Squeak" Neff who just added "dynamic" to his drumming resume, Nick Hall solidified why he's one of the best young bassist in the Northwest, Nic Rollins ripped through his mystifying duties almost Hendrix like, and Travis Pinn melodic and powerful voiced was spell-bounding and lifted the hearts and minds of everyone. While other bands were selling their demo's back in the corner, OE wrapped up their show by giving theirs away and I hope you got one because if you did, you got a little bit of history in your hands. My music-loving hat is off to all the bands, fans and especially O'Brien's Enemy and the Roseland event organizers for bringing this great event to the Portland.
