We're thrilled to bits to have found our new drummer. Last year was hard with venues closing, festivals that we were really looking forward to getting postponed then cancelled and travel plans going by the board. We all considered packing it in. But facing up to all of that made us realise why we put ourselves through it. We do it because we love to play music. Without it life would be ok but it just wouldn't be the same. We decided we had to carry on - quiting wasn't an option. In our hunt for a new drummer one person stood out from the rest - Zofia Willis. She could hold down a groove and brought some great touches to our sound, but more importantly she had the same approach to music as we did.

When we first rehearsed Zof was busy filming "How the other half live" with Channel 4. A couple of weeks later Sugar House Music got in touch with us and we decided to do a single together. It's incredible how in the space of a few weeks we went from despair to elation - we now had a great new drummer, a totally infectious single, the prospect of a video in the pipeline and a new thirst for gigs.

So we'll catch you at one soon. You'll see me - the bouncing bass player grinning from ear to ear. Oh and make sure you check out our new drummer!

Cheers!

Alan

"Blackpool's done it again!"

Monday, November 26, 2007

As ever there were great moments in this creaky old flagship of live Lancaster sounds as she cruised the rolling seas of boozy oblivion (hic).

Blackpool, there's a place for a start. It once gave rise to a band called the Rocking Vicars (the role models for all badassed, get y' banned punkers to follow) way back in the 60's of the last century. It was a band Blackpool is still trying to forget. It seems the quiet, retiring old seaside hideaway has gone and done it again. The Occasional Rascuedos have escaped into the world at large after several decades of mystery best read about on their own website at www.rascuedos.co.uk. Finally they turned up here. They're just brill! Blues, rock and a little of their own blend together in a fabbo set of off the wall performances where the envelope of what is said and what should never be are pushed to the edge of musical criminality. A number of covers are played, delightfully, in a way that might make them unrecogniseable even to their own composers and their own compositions are wonderfully odd, you have to love Meat Pie Woman/Lady or whatever its called! They're on again on 25th Nov (2007) so dont miss 'em or you'll be as sad as an incredibly sad thingy.
