"We Pick The Welsh Bands Set To Cause A Stir In 2012"

Ocean Red
Wearing influences such as The Temper Trap, We Are Scientists, The Foo Fighters and Snow Patrol on their classically cut sleeves, there is no lack of the grandiose in what this new Cardiff band aspire to. Debut EP Codes And Lines was a stirring example of big-hearted rock ‘n’ roll never afraid to aim high. Lead track, the suitably titled High Rise featuring singer Nathan’s soaring vocals, was a particularly affecting treat. Forthcoming new single Measures looks set to propel them even further forwards.

"Ocean Red – Codes & Lines EP"

It’s always great to witness an outfit rise from demo to fully blown release in the space of a few MMP issues. Admittedly, alarm bells ring at the prospect of yet another alternative indie-rock band on the circuit. Fortunately Ocean Red succeed in presenting cogent, well-conceived and well-produced material, rife with musical intrigue and depth. This is no mean feat, particularly in light of the predominant linear textures and harmonies, but with the added punch in drum production (fast becoming a trademark of producer Todd Campbell) and substantial flair in songcraft, Ocean Red are well on their way to bypassing the alternative / indie doldrums in favour of something much more exciting.
