Bio
Ocho de Bastos (translation: Eight of Clubs) is one of the most popular and sought after Latin Pop Rock bands in the Washington DC Metropolitan Area. Founded in 2009 by a group of enthusiastic young musicians, their sound is an energetic fusion of tropical rhythms with latin rock. A unique guitar sound, blended with powerful drums, latin percussion, and catchy brass riffs complement Ocho de Bastos' unique style. Ocho de Bastos was recently described by National Public Radio’s Felix Contreras as “…A DAMN GOOD BAND.”
Ocho de Bastos has successfully performed in major festivals (>80,000 in attendance) that support diversity and various charities. They have also shared the stage with other renowned artists in the Latin Rock genre including Los Enanitos Verdes, Cafe Tacvba, Jarabe de Palo, Los Autenticos Decadentes, and Zoe, among others. Diverse audiences (including people from different ethnic backgrounds and ages) enjoy and dance to the contagious rhythms of Ocho de Bastos music.
Ocho de Bastos continues to develop a growing fan base (over 60,000 Facebook and Twitter followers) as well as strong relationships with businesses (e.g., Soundexchange) and multiple media outlets (e.g., Univision and Telemundo), which has enabled their music to expand over the north east coast of the United States.
Ocho de Bastos lineup consists of musicians from Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, and Venezuela; Milton Valentin as lead vocalist, Jesse Robles on guitar, Daniel Santos on keyboards, Hipolito Gonzalez on bass guitar, and Raul Quiroz on drums.
