Biography

“October Flight” are an azorean rock quintet that started its activities in 2008 and quickly became one of the most important bands in the azorean music scene,Formed by Flávio Cristóvam (Vocals/Guitar); Timothy Lima (Guitar/Vocals); João Ornelas (bass Guitar); André Gomes (keyboards) and João Mendes (drums).October Flight previously known as Jamandizen, won in less than than 4 years of activity the following contests/awards:-(2009) Winners of “Angra Rock” Festival”-(2010) Winners of Portugal’s “Myspace One’s to Watch”-(2010) Winners of “LabJovem”-(2010) Award of “Labrevelation” to Singer/songwriter Flávio Cristóvam.Besides these awards, Flávio Cristóvam was also finalist with October Flight songs in massive international songwriting competitions such as:
-”UK Songwriting Contest” (2011) -“Songwriting Competition” (2012) (top 10 out of 16000 entrants)
In 2010 October Flight was Selected by the Portuguese Government to represent Portugal at the Portuguese national day in Boston where the band played for a fantastic audience at the “Bristol Community College”, After Headlining the main stages of the Azores, sharing them with acts as big as “James”, “Rui Veloso”, “Mariza”, “Da Weasel” and many others, the band decided that it was time to record their debut album.In 2011 the band spent 1 year in the studio shaping “The Closing Doors” with the well known Portuguese producer Rui David (Hands on approach, Darko, Mazgani etc.).The album counted with special guest “Elkie Brooks” In a duet with Flávio Cristóvam In the song “Start Again”, one of the 12 tracks featured in the album.In march 2012, without even having a record label yet, the First Single “Make you Mine” came out and went straight to Number 2 in Portuguese main video chart “SAPO”. The band’s sudden climbing on Portuguese music charts immediatly caught the attention of several Portuguese record labels and agencies.
Finally, on June 21st “The Closing Doors” came out through “Iplay Records”.On the 26th of may, “October Flight” was the first Azorean band to sell out the massive “Centro Cultural de Angra do Heroismo for “the Closing Doors” album launch concert.Still in 2012 october Flight” was one of the 8 Portuguese bands which represented Portugal on Canada’s biggest festival “Canadian music Week”, played New York’s Drom Club, and played Portuguese mythical Venues such as “Paradise Garage” and “music Box”.
