Bio
OCTOBER GAME was founded by a group of students at Halifax West High School who had a laid-back folk-rock jam band sound in mind. They began by playing Dave Matthews Band covers at high school coffee houses and local fundraisers. Soon their influences expanded to include Jack Johnson, Coldplay, John Mayer and various other rock-oriented acts; however, they still retained an eclectic sound inspired as much by funk, jazz and hip-hop as straightforward radio rock. With this broad range of influences in mind, they soon retired from cover-bandhood and began writing original material.
Their first original song, "Rain" has become a crowd favorite, along with the funk-influenced "Happy Town", the laid-back "Beach Song", and the newly-released "Four Reasons" off their latest EP, Stuck In Dreams. They have performed these favourites and many others at such events as the 2006 ECMA 72-hour jam, the Halifax Harbour Festival, the ECMA Songwriters' Circle, the Theatre Halifax Rock and Walk, and a full-fledged showcase set at Music Nova Scotia Week.
October Game's most recent exploit was a combined cd-release for Stuck In Dreams and video shoot for "Four Reasons". Shot by Matt Trecartin and directed by Jackie Torrens, the video displays October Game doing what they do best: busting out an energetic set for a crowd full of fans.
