THE RETURN OF THE DUO
We all know OutKast. We’ve all heard The Clipse. All respect due to Run DMC! The “duo” has always been a special part of the rap game, but as of late the “solo artist” has been the trend. So its time to get back to the essence of hip hop. Its time for the “RETURN OF THE DUO”.
Od and Sheed Black are two hip hop artists that make up the group known as “OD and Sheed”. Based out of Atlanta, GA this hip hop duo entices their audience by feeding their brains and hearts with soulful melodies and poetic lyrics.
½ of the duo, OD, has been making music since the age of six. Later as a teenager he began producing and engineering his own music. Along with locally released albums such as WODSC, Bullyfoot, and Hustleville. USA, O.D. has made a name for himself in what he likes to call the tri-state of the south, Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina.
The other ½, Sheed Black, started writing poetry at the age of 9 and later began his music career at the age of 17 writing lyrics in the basement of a Maryland Home. Sheed is also the co-founder of Keekz Music Group, A locally known unsigned music group in the DC Metro Area.
In the Fall of 2003, OD and Sheed individually traveled down I 85 to ATL to start college while continuing to peruse their musical careers as solo artists. But in 2004 these two college classmates decided to create something different, something you haven’t seen, something you haven’t heard. When you match up a East Coast artist with a artist from the South you are bound to get something fresh, something new, and something classic.
OD and Sheed began their assault on the rap game together in 2004, when they created a group named “Da Frat Boyz”. During their time as “Da Frat Boyz”, OD and Sheed released a mixtape known as “Freshman year”. This mixtape, which featured singles such as “Live it up” and “I can dig it”, generated oa large audience of fans and a buzz in ATL and on college campuses across the country. They performed in front of countless crowds at various colleges and universities, opening at many homecoming concerts.
Working hard to become the next best duo the hip hop industry has ever seen, OD and Sheed felt that their image and content was growing very mature. A proposal for a name change to “OD and Sheed” came about and was agreed upon in early 2011. Faced with the challenges of making a name for themselves in the music industry, filled with mostly solo artist. “OD and Sheed gives you something out of the norm”, says Sheed.
Since the change, OD and Sheed have been grinding and building a buzz and are still doing shows. “We built this S**t from the ground up” says OD. Some of their most anticipated projects include two mixtapes called “the Lions Den 1” and “The Lions Den 2”, which are set to release in 2012. But don’t expect to hear a duplicate sound on the perfectly titled mixtape “The Lion’s Den”. Expect to hear feel good, motivational, street anthems such as Erryday, A.B.E, and Now or Never. OD and Sheed offer something for everybody. With producers such as J-Strap and Bamboo of ABE Music Group., “The Lion’s Den 1 & 2” are definitely mixtapes that you want in your music collection.
