Bio

Los Angeles bred and based, OEDIPUS is an alternative rock trio initially founded in 1997 by vocalist/bassist Jeremy Haffner, & guitarist Stephen Cohen, who found inspiration in the name through studying the Oedipus Trilogy in high school Latin class, but it was not until 2005 that the band released their first album Humbility.

After recording their second album, the 7 song EP Covetous with Sylvia Massy (Red Hot Chili Peppers, Tool, Aerosmith throughout 2008, and touring cross-country several times over independently between ’05-‘08, the band took a break from the road and went back into the studio, this time with long time friend and producer Darian Cowgill, to begin recording the songs that would soon start gaining them major notoriety overseas.

Initially debuting the first of these songs in April 2010, their first single “Tres Las” made an immediate impact on radio stations worldwide, making their biggest waves on Poland’s major Modern Rock station Eska Rock. It was not long after its first spin that the song flooded their airwaves, soaring to #1 before the track was even released in the US. Out-charting such American pop/rock contemporaries as Linkin Park, Keane, and Pearl Jam, the band found the song ranked as the #2 most played song on the station in 2010, with their follow-up single “Burn It Down” coming in at #37. In February of 2011, Oedipus dropped their 3rd single “Jack & Ginger,” which initially debuted in the States on Covetous, which also hit #1 in February of 2011.

Dating back to November of 2010 the band made their first appearance overseas for a one-off Polish performance sponsored by Eska Rock for their annual Rocktoberfest Birthday Bash, where the band also spent five days making press appearances for their self-titled, full-length Polish debut. The station even launched a Youtube fan generated submission contest where listeners were encouraged to record their own music videos of themselves lip synching to the song, generating thousands of submissions for a chance to win tickets to the private event.

In conjunction with these commercial landmarks for the band, “Tres Las” was also added to Poland’s first installment of the well known US mix CD NOW That’s What I Call Music Vol. 1 keeping company with such US Pop icons as Katy Perry, Snoop Dogg,Ke$ha, while “Jack & Ginger” appeared on NOW That’s what I Call Music Vol. 2.

Here in the States, OEDIPUS garnered attention from media and industry tastemakers, picking up regular spins for both “Tres Las” & “Burn It Down” on specialty radio programs across the country, including regular rotation on Los Angeles based tastemaker Indie 103.1, KROQ’s Locals Only program, KUSF in San Francisco, and KMFA Tucson. Shortly thereafter, MTVu’s Freshman 5 program debuted the video for “Tres Las” which received thousands of request votes in its initial week.

To kick off 2011, the band returned to Poland to headline Ursynalia Festival; Warsaw’s preeminent open air festival, alongside the likes of Korn, Simple Plan, Alter Bridge, & Guano Apes. The band’s performance was met by an enthusiastic 10,000+ screaming fans.

Continuing to break ground in 2011, Oedipus picked up steam signing a worldwide record deal with 15-year industry veteran Thom Hazaert, former President of Corporate Punishment Records and co-founder of Total Assault Marketing, and his recently launched THC: Music/Rocket Science Ventures in October.

Hazaert as an Artist Manager/A&R Rep helped launch the careers of Chimaira, Switched, Depswa, Bleed the Sky, Adema, and more, while as a seasoned industry marketing vet, Hazaert’s expertise was instrumental with a myriad of hugely successful 2000’s major label releases from artists including Limp Bizkit, Korn, Snot, (Hed)pe, Nine Inch Nails, Static-X, Cold, Guns N’ Roses, Pitchshifter, Staind, and more.

Oedipus will release their THC: Music debut EP Holding Out For Moredigitally worldwide in October of 2011 featuring their newest single “Gimme A Chance”, a song already spinning on airwaves overseas, followed by a full length album set to drop in March of 2012.
