"[LISTEN] Sleep Machine - Wild for You :: Indie Shuffle"

Pegged as “Aretha Franklin meets Led Zeppelin,” Sleep Machine’s pulsating “Wild for You” makes them sound more appropriately like if Jenny Lewis hooked up with The Black Keys. (So does that make them Paramore?)

The Sunset Strip-based rock duo has a debut EP, Cover Me in Gold, dropping March 3. The project’s title track has already been featured on MTV. The just wrapped music video for “Wild for You,” which was co-directed by cousins Michael Gladis (an actor in Mad Men) and Coleman Gladis (a Mad Men producer).

"Sleep Machine release first single 'Wild For You,' prepare debut EP"

Los Angeles based rock duo Sleep Machine have unveiled the video for first single "Wild For You," just weeks ahead of the March 3 release date of their debut EP.

"'Wild For You' was the first song we wrote and recorded together, even before we were Sleep Machine," the duo told AXS. "We were just experimenting with sounds and seeing what came out.

"We wanted to really exaggerate the combination of loud guitars with loads of fuzz and this sexy, swaggery female vocals, and see how it mixed. After we finished it, we knew we were on to something cool. Sometimes you’ve got to throw a verse or chorus away, and just play a guitar solo because you want to."

The single has already achieved some notoriety, having been chosen to help promote the upcoming TV Land comedy-drama series "Younger," from "Sex and the City" creator Darren Star and featuring Tony Award-winning actress Sutton Foster.

Its music video, which we've included with this article, was co-directed by cousins Michael and Coleman Gladis, best known for their work on AMC's critically acclaimed show "Mad Men."

Sleep Machine consists of vocalist Alisha Zalkin and multi-instrumentalist Dan Kalisher. On their forthcoming EP, Cover Me in Gold, Kalisher played every instrument other than the drums - which were provided by drummer Kiel Feher - and also served as producer, making it a true duo effort.

Cover Me in Gold is a five-song release that includes "Wild For You" as well as the title track "Cover Me in Gold," which was recently placed in MTV's drama series "Finding Carter." The record was mixed and mastered by John Spiker, who has previously worked with Tenacious D and The Killers.

To support the EP's arrival, Sleep Machine have planned a March 4 record release show at Los Angeles's legendary The Viper Room, where they previously performed in January, including a cover of Led Zeppelin's "Whole Lotta Love." They will take the stage at 10 PM. After that performance - which also falls on Kalisher's birthday - the duo plan to do further touring in the remainder of 2015.

You can download "Wild For You" now on iTunes, and Cover Me in Gold arrives on March 3.

"Examiner.com proudly debuts the new album from Sleep Machine"

Sleep Machine is a Los Angeles-based rock duo composed of powerhouse vocalist Alisha Zalkin and guitarist Dan Kalisher. Soul and swagger combine with screaming guitars and thunderous drums on the band’s debut EP, Cover Me In Gold, which is being released today.

With the exception of the drums, which were played by Kiel Feher, Kalisher played all instruments on the album, as well as produced it. The album was mixed and mastered by John Spiker, who just won a Grammy for the new Tenacious D record. The music is mesmerizing, giving the listener just a taste of what lies in store for them at a live show. Despite the fact that this is their debut EP, the band shows a depth and maturity that can only lead to greatness. The strong drum beat combined with the dynamic guitar form the perfect foundation that allows the sexy and powerful voice of Zalkin to soar.

You can stream the album live by clicking here. For those of you in the Los Angeles area, the band will celebrate the release of the new EP with a show at The Viper Room on the Sunset Strip at 10 p.m. on Wednesday, March 4, 2015.

Born from a need for a new creative outlet, Sleep Machine set off to see what collaboration might sound like with each member’s opposite influences. Kalisher grew up playing in rock bands and listening to artists like Led Zeppelin and ACDC, whereas Zalkin was influenced by female singers with big voices like Janis Joplin and Aretha Franklin.

While song structure is definitely considered in Sleep Machine’s craft, they don’t get hung up on the traditional side of things. “Sometimes you’ve got to throw a verse or chorus away, and just play a guitar solo because you want to,” says Sleep Machine. Their straight up, take-no-prisoners attitude allows for a wild, high-energy live performance that oozes the kind of vibe that rock ‘n roll was built on.

Cover Me In Gold includes the single “Wild For You,” which was chosen as the promotional song for TV Land’s newest original comedy-drama series, Younger. Written, executive produced and directed by Darren Star (“Sex and the City”), the show stars Tony Award® winner Sutton Foster (“Bunheads”), Hilary Duff (“Lizzie McGuire”), Debi Mazar (“Entourage”) and Miriam Shor (“GCB”).

“Wild For You” was the first song Zalkin and Kalisher wrote and recorded together, even before they were Sleep Machine. “We were just experimenting with sounds and seeing what came out. We wanted to really exaggerate the combination of loud guitars with loads of fuzz and this sexy female vocal that is full of swagger, and see how it mixed. After we finished it, we knew we were on to something cool.” The song’s accompanying music video was co-directed by cousins Michael Gladis (actor, “Mad Men”) and Coleman Gladis (production, “Mad Men”).

Additionally, “Cover Me In Gold,” the title track of the new EP, was recently featured on MTV's Finding Carter, and is now available on iTunes.

Later this year, Zalkin and Kalisher plan to take their live band on the road with Will Herrington on keys, Feher on drums, Andrew Perusi on bass/vocals, and Spiker on guitar/vocals.

"New on the Air:: Sleep Machine – ‘Wild for You’"

Sexy, stomping, swaggering, straight up blues-rock from LA duo Sleep Machine. Alisha Zalkin and Dan Kalisher’s ‘Wild for You’ is a slice of Black Keys inspired and unapologetically fun rhythmic riffage. Channelling Led Zeppelin via Shirley Manson and Muse at their most ballsy, stick this on loud and nod your head, freely imagining the sultry Sunset Strip bar this tune paints. Aided by crisp production from Kalisher himself, and mastering by John Spiker (Tenacious D, The Killers), this track, taken from their début EP (March 3rd 2015) ‘Cover me in Gold’, is escapist RAWK! skillfully delivered. Check out ‘Wild for You’, set to be the official promo song for the new TV Land show “Younger”, below: - Get Off The Air

"PREMIERE: Sleep Machine Release New Music Video For F*%& You Anthem "Game Over""

"Wild For Sleep Machine"

Los Angeles-based rock duo Sleep Machine – consisting of powerhouse vocalist Alisha Zalkin with guitarist Dan Kalisher – are about to release their 5-track EP titled “Cover Me In Gold”.

It was mixed and mastered by John Spiker (Tenacious D, The Killers) and will be released March 3rd.

The first single from the EP “Wild For You” premiered this week.
We had a listen:

This begins with a terrific headrush of blustering guitar-sound (reminiscent of bygone White Stripes.)

The rhythms constantly build themselves – stormily caging the beast within.

The alchemy includes a regular riff that titivates your nodding your head … this pace continues through the entire journey.

The voice brings to mind Katy Perry - I do not think Alisha will be happy about that comparison …. but there it is.

It has the same sweetness hiding in cracks and, similarly, that characteristic boldness that’s found between the sheets.

We particularly liked the bee-buzz guitar-work from Dan – it crossed over into our mind then growled, uncontrollably, around our cortex.

The wooah-wooah vocals complete this thoroughly engaging track. Neat and fun. - Raw Ramp

"PREMIERE: Sleep Machine Release New Music Video For F%#k You Anthem “Game Over”"

VENTS is pleased to join forces with Sleep Machine for the premiere of their fuck you anthem to haters in the vein of The Black Keys and Rise Against The Machine, “Game Over” off their latest EP.

About the song, the band comments “We wrote ‘Game Over’ as a ‘fuck you’ to haters. It’s about getting knocked down and coming back stronger every time We knew that when we were conceptualizing the video we wanted to have superheroes involved, because superheroes have two sides to them. On the outside they are shy and have a tendency to get picked on, but once they reveal who they really are, nobody can stop them. We asked our friend, lead singer of the band No More Kings and animator, Pete Mitchell, to do this video for us. Eventually we came up with the idea of doing a comic book-style lyric video, and Pete created the perfect balance between badass and lighthearted.”
