I’ve been keeping the OKS faithful appraised of O Fidelis movement since the band stole my heart during a hotly contested trivia contest. It’s time for another update, because O Fidelis is on the move.
After their show tonight with The Safes and Rockwell Social at Belle Isle Brewery, the band will commence interstate transportation on their first mini-tour, which includes stops in Pella, Iowa; and Chicago.
This is a sign of the times; catch them now (preferably tonight) before they get big, leave us and send postcards every now and then. They’re right behind The Non on my list of “bands that we will not be able to selfishly keep to ourselves much longer.” The Pretty Black Chains and Sherree Chamberlain round out the list, for the record. They’re all about to grow up and leave the nest, calling home occasionally and telling us that everything’s OK. Even if it’s pretty much not.
Okay, I’m getting a bit melodramatic.

O Fidelis is all about story telling. This Americana folk group from Oklahoma City is the embodiment of musical things that make you smile. O Fidelis got its start in 2008, combining the versatile talents of Brian and Laney Gililland to create a sound that is totally their own, and quickly becoming a favorite among their growing fan base. Brian and Laney are both accomplished singer songwriters and multi-instrumentalists. During a typical show, they will play guitar, ukulele, banjo, keyboards, glock, drums, hand percussion, and take turns singing lead and harmony vocals. Along the way, other musicians sometime join them on stage to create an even bigger sound, but there’s no question Brian and Laney are the magic that is O Fidelis.
The band has shared the stage with the likes of Dr. Dog, The Uglysuit (whom they have shared members), Cursive's Tim Kasher, Brown Bird, Lovedrug, Andrew Jackson Jihad, Samantha Crain, and many more. O Fidelis has been featured on TV and web broadcasts including NewsOK's Got It Covered, VDub Sessions, Ackerman McQueen's Extended Play, NewsOK'sStatic, OU's The Set, Chevy Bricktown Showcase, and several others. In 2009, they released a 7 song EP simply titled, "O Fidelis". They are about to rerelease it onto iTunes in March. O Fidelis is currently in negotiations with Rock Steady Music for placement of their songs in various upcoming feature films. They will be releasing their debut full length album in June, and have already been slated to return to the recording studio in december 2012, this time with the help of members from the David Crowder* Band. O Fidelis is on the very edge of several big things in the near future.
