We are a close knit Folk/Jam trio from the Adirondacks Mountains of New York, that composes our own fingering pickin' tunes, and we have been making our way across new york and neighboring states. Our music tries to capture the feel of upstate new york.

Biography

Of the Mountains is a Folk/Jam Trio from the Adirondack Mountains of Upstate New York. The trio consists of Joseph Biss on vocals and guitar, Jeff Giglio on the piano and keys, and Dillon Swertner also on vocals and guitar. The three of us met at SUNY Adirondack in the fall of 2010 in a Music Fundamentals class where the three of us were grouped up for a project, and so it began. In April of 2012 we decided to start playing together as a trio after a couple years of jamming and playing here and there together at local coffee shops. Since then we have been playing from North Creek down to Albany, from Burlington Vermont out west to Gloversville, New York and many towns in between. We started off with a few originals and covered a lot of Grateful Dead covers which is a strong influence for us folks in the band, and now we have a dozen or so originals under out belt. Unlike a lot of other bands out there, the three of us all have training in classical music, theory and all the fundamentals and we feel with that knowledge in our pockets and our love for picking and grinning it puts us apart from other groups.

Lyrics

Ginseng and Honey

Written By: Lyrics: Joseph Biss Music: Of the Mountains

Bygones be bygones and the mountains are calling me home
The old rock wall is cutting through the field and slowing the growth
The babbling brooks and rolling hills are a forest now
The woods I walked when I was a lad were like elysian fields

So I venture out through the thicket on a whim without a single finger crossed
I found me a riparian field, I bleed out and let the music drain
So dance children dance children see me grin a grin ear to ear
so dance darling dance darling shuffle down my old rock wall

Bygones be bygones and the mountains are calling me home
The old rock wall is cutting through the field and slowing the growth
The babbling brooks and rolling hills are a forest now
The woods I walked when I was a lad were like elysian fields

Who should appear but the brothers frog to pack and drive the ‘wagen away
Six towns down and all that we found is this is how we wish to spend our days
So dance children dance children coming with the others in hand
Yet dance darling dance darling empty handed and open for mine

In Hopes of Scenery

Written By: Lyrics: Joseph Biss Music: Of the Mountains

I need to find me a long haired girl
a finger pickin', flower smokin', coffee drinkin' girl
with eyes of crimson that smile when i sing
i'm gonna find me a long a haired girl

I need to find me a down to gia lass
Someone to share a long life with
Someone to bury all of my Kin
I need to find me a down to gia lass

Too many of times have i been let down
my love snuffed out like an old candle flame
for sainitys sack and my love alone
i need to find a gal to share a mountainside grove

I need to find me a long haired girl
a finger pickin', flower smokin', coffee drinkin' girl
with eyes of crimson that smile when i sing
i'm gonna find me a long a haired girl

Suite of Flora

Written By: Lyrics: Joseph Biss Music: Of the Mountains

I'll fill you a meadow
with color growth and love
I'll hand pick you
the flowers of my own

I'll grow you mighty grove
someday ill chop it down
build you up these lovely walls
to lay a roof on down

im gonna sow and grow her
acres and acres of color
everyday ill sing her a suite of flora

Im gonna sow and grow her
acres and acres of color
everyday we met ill give her a sweet
everyday she we weeps ill compose her a suite
and everyday we wake ill sing her a suite of flora

I'll fill you a meadow
with color growth and love
I'll hand pick you
the flowers of your own

im gonna sow and grow her
acres and acres of color
everyday ill sing her a suite of flora

Im gonna sow and grow her
acres and acres of color
everyday we met ill give her a sweet
everyday she we weeps ill compose her a suite
and everyday we wake ill sing her a suite of flora

His Song

Written By: Lyrics: Joseph Biss Music: Of the Mountains

Picture me picture you
walking down the same familiar road
you veer off and i take on
wishing you had come along

Picture me picture you
the day we met at the bottom of the hill
it was freezing cold but the song in you
could warm a thousand smiles

oh my friend, oh my friend
what id give to see you again

Picture me picture you
the night i came in to your home
i sat down you pulled up a chair
we had been friends ever since

Picture me picture
the day you came into our home
we kicked it back and traded tails
and you were on your way

oh my friend, oh my friend
what id give to see you again

picture me picture you
walking the that same familiar road
i stay back and you pass on
leaving me to sing your song
leaving me to sing your song

Marrymebury

Written By: Lyrics: Joseph Biss Music: Of the Mountains

i leave the same room three times
have you repeat myself twice
for I've forgotten why i left in the first place, aint that a charm,
to live a life so entwined
with something so easily forgot

bury me on the mountain
let this old body feed the trees
i choose to have the roots live of me
than a grave where you,
could adorn me could morn me
let me break down in peace

it seems like i spend my days so contently
chasing every rain cloud i see
in hopes that the other side ill find me,
a better day
if i cant find me one, ill grow me one
something better comes from the rain

bury me on the mountain
let this old body feed the trees
i choose to have the roots live of me
than a grave where you,
could adorn me could morn me
let me break down in peace
