"Oh, Be Clever Release New Track “My Religion”, Download Now For Free"

Alternative electronic duo Oh, Be Clever have joined forces with Kenny Carkeet to create their haunting, raw and emotional new track “My Religion.” Listen here.

To celebrate the release, they are offering a free MP3 download for a limited time. Find the download below.

“We had no idea what to expect going into record with Kenny [Carkeet],” vocalist Brittney Shields explains. “Quite honestly, we were a little intimidated! The experience with Kenny and Jarvis [Anderson] (Saturn City) was absolutely amazing. They opened doors for me, as a writer, that do not get opened very often. The song was basically written about the destructive relationships that we, as human beings, get into. I was in one of these for about 6 months, and once I got myself out of it, I realized it was based purely on lust. I couldn't let this person go because I was in love with the intimacy...and that was pretty much it. The ugly side of me was brought out in this ‘relationship’ and I couldn't let it go because I was in lust. Kenny and Jarvis completely brought me out of my ‘box,’ so to speak, as a lyricist and I think the song is an interesting way to look at how humans view these destructive relationships.”

Prior to forming Oh, Be Clever, vocalist Brittney Shields and multi instrumentalist Cory Scott Layton were members of separate bands that loathed each other to the point of physical violence. Late one night after a show, a fight broke out in the parking lot between the two bands. Having always admired each other, Shields and Layton fled the scene to create their own music, and Oh, Be Clever was born.

The duo will be hitting the road this summer and announcing tour dates soon.

"11 Independent Musicians Who Are Making A Name For Themselves"

6. Oh, Be Clever
Sound: Soul-ectronic jam band.
Sounds like: CHVRCHES + The Veronicas
Sound bite: Brittney Shields and Cory Scott Layton — the duo that comprises Oh, Be Clever — were once members of rival bands. After the bands’ contention resulted in physical violence after a show, Brittney and Cory — who’ve always admired each other’s musicianship — decided to leave their respective bands and collaborate on Oh, Be Clever. - Buzzfeed

"Discover: Oh, Be Clever - Next To You"

This song titled ‘Next To You’ by emerging duo Oh, Be Clever is pretty good but when the chorus hits, it’s fucking amazing.

The Salt Lake City based duo have crafted quite the indie-POP record with ‘Next To You’, the production dazzles with electric-rock flare while vocalist and wordsmith Brittney Shields delivers a bitchin’ vocal performance that echoes an 80’s rock starlet, as for the chorus, it’s one of the best things I’ve heard in 2014.

Get familiar with Oh, Be Clever, I have a good feeling about these two. Oh, and did I mention how big the chorus is? - Pop On And On

Still working on that hot first release.

Indie, electro, soul is a category of sound squarely cornered by Salt Lake City's breakout duo Oh, Be Clever. Vocalist and wordsmith Brittney Shields effortlessly uses Cory Scott Layton's refreshing rush of instrumentals as a conduit for spinning tales of love, loss and living in the 21st century. The pair, however, haven't always enjoyed perfect harmony. Prior to Oh, Be Clever the two were members of separate bands which loathed each other to the point of physical violence. Late one night after a show, in the parking lot, a fight broke out between their two bands. Having always admired each other, Shields and Layton left the scene of the fight to create their own music. Later that very night, after disappearing together, the two alerted their previous bands that they were done. Oh, Be Clever was born. The goal from the beginning was to create a new sound completely different from their previous efforts. Layton knew that Shields' voice could roll and run, drop and drip, cascade and plunge like no other in Salt Lake City. Together these two set out to create the perfect sound to spark Oh, Be Clever to life.
