Bio

Oh Liza Jane sparked together in living rooms and on porch swings when they started playing in a warm and welcoming collaboration inspired by old folk songs. After finishing various degrees in Boston, MA, they all found themselves in New York City together with the burning urge to play old time music, while vigorously creating new takes on the tradition. After several successful shows around NYC, the band decided to make a full-length record of original tunes.

Lead singer Liz McFadden took the driver's seat and brought in the amazingly talented Michael Merenda (Mike & Ruthy) of Humble Abode Music to record and co-produce the record. Recorded live in a cabin outside of Woodstock, NY, the album, "Nice Time," came to life. The songs evoke exuberance and tenderness, revealing the warmth of the space in which it was created. Says McFadden, "The songs are all about a journey, either past or future, and they all start with the hook. I build the rest of the tune around the part that gets stuck in my head until it births into a complete melody. Then the lyrics just flow 'til they fit."

Now taking shape in a new line-up, the paired down group focuses on the intimacy and urgency of their new music in their upcoming EP (release date tbd). No matter what the configuration, the band always strives to untie the singer inside of everyone and share the power of song and community with their heartfelt harmonies, coupled with their overall determination to have a nice time.

Folks are saying:

"Oh Liza Jane can play, with well-structured and heartfelt songs that resonate for fans of the Mammals, Greg Brown, Paula Frazer, and Ida."
