Yes, Brooklyn by way of Portland by way of Pennsylvania band Mama Bear did name themselves after the Berenstain Bears, but VIVI and Dpdp, aka Victoria and Dale, are also awesome because they sing impossibly catchy folk/pop-songs that are comforting indeed - Urban Outfitters Blog
This is one of those groups that is just simply really really good. The first time I heard You Make Me Feel Like Hips I was sucked in to the Brooklyn twang (a varietal notably different from the true southern variety but no less enjoyable and distinct) and simple adoring lyrics. After chasing them down and hearing a bit more I'm pleased to report its all this good. I'm hoping to lure them down to Philly this fall so, as always, keep checking the concert listings - The World in a Paper Cup Blog
Precious pop tunes trickling over gentle guitar strums with a country twang. - CMJ Marathon
Sugary, honey-lickingly sweet music makes me feel like crawling through a bee hive then dancing in the sunshine with my best friends...we quite like it - Shut Magazine (UK)

Bio
A Brooklyn based group, composed of a blatantly motley crew- MAMA BEAR was put together in early 2009. Initially a side project, Dale and Victoria joined together to bring to life songs that Dale had written long before, but had not come to fruition.
It all started with a “Crock Pot Taco Party”, at Victoria’s apartment in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, late 2008. Even though the two shared mutual close friends, Victoria and Dale had only met once before the dinner. After everyone’s appetites had been sated, a large group of mid 20-somethings settled down to have an unexpected Disney sing-a-long. Songs from the classic "Aladdin", stood out in particular.
The following evening Victoria received an email from Dale, saying: “I’ve got these folky jingle jangle group sing-along type songs... It’s pretty secret stuff. I know you can sing the Disney and I do need to throw some femininity into the vocals. Interested?”
Of course the offer was well received, and many nights of hard work/liquor ensued.
As of today, MAMA BEAR has welcomed Tim, Jeremy, Ryan and Matt into the fold. The unusual dynamic can be attributed to the fact that musical genres abound from one end of the spectrum to the other, varying with each person. However, the end result is full of fun and fervor, creating boisterous live shows.
MAMA BEAR has a self titled EP that will be released at the end of 2009. If you have any questions or comments please feel free to contact us!
