"Teens Ready To Rock"

Oh! The Humanity!

"We met in seventh grade at the junior high -- and we didn't really like each other at first," a chuckling Joe Corns noted of his relationship with Tyler Finn. "But then partway through the year, he came up to me and said, 'I've got a bass player, but we need a guitar player.' "

When it came time for practice, the bass player never showed up.

"That night, we wrote a song called 'Disturbed,' and we still play it today," Corns said. "We actually entered into the talent show that year and won."

Finn plays the keyboards and does all the programming.

"We're electric pop, so we used a lot of computer programs to make music," he explained. "I also do the vocals."

Like the members of Minds Without Purpose, the boys struggled to find the right name.

"The Situation was our first name, but then Tyler's mom came up with Oh! The Humanity! and we just really liked it," Corns said.

Finn said interest in the band's growth was slow-growing until last year.

"We just decided then that we wanted to take it more seriously and really develop our style," he said. "So we're working on that and just trying to get shows. My dad manages us now and does all our booking through MySpace."

Finn said the pair plays at a lot of local churches with a set of about eight songs.

"Our lyrics aren't Christian per se, but it's positive music," he said. "I write most of it and he writes the guitar parts. Most of our songs are about relationships because everyone can relate to that."

Both boys are currently unattached.

Finn said, "We know a lot about relationships that don't work out."

However, the pair may not fly solo for long.

"We always have about 30 girls in the front row screaming," Corns said. "It's pretty cool, I gotta say. It's a good feeling."

Pinpointing their main fan base is easy.

"Teenage girls," Finn said without hesitation.

This summer, Oh! The Humanity is hoping to make its first tour.

"There's a band from Ohio, Minnesota, Indiana, Pennsylvania and Illinois, and each band is trying to book a show in each state for us," Finn said.

For the time being, the boys are preparing for Tri-C.

"We're really excited," Corns said.
