Bio

Olaf Urban started playing guitar in 1977 when he was in the age of 6. His first guitar was an acoustic one, because he was learning classical guitar at the local music college in his hometown Duesseldorf. It is one of the most important cities in Germany for music, arts and cultural activities. He was growing up in the surroundings of other well known artists like Doro Pesch, Die Krupps or Die Toten Hosen. After six years of studying classical guitar, as well as learning how to use and write scales, he started visiting a two year seminar for blues guitar. He learned techniques like working with a bottle neck to play slide guitar. You can hear it on several songs of the actual CD, like Road To Babylon or Watchtower Visiting Hour.

In the age of 14 he started his first Rock & Roll band called Rough Stuff and released his first studio recording. This band was seen on many stages and he was able to collect a lot experiences in playing in front of big crowds. Two years later he left the band to join a formation named Believer, accompaning their studio recordings. This was his first time of being a member of a “signed” band, playing together with well known musicians like Uli Rohmann, the former singer of Lions Breed!

In the following years Olaf Urban was more a kind of “Rock&Roll Gypsy”, trying out a several bands and music styles, changing frequently the instrument from guitar to bass guitar and back. A few of his stops were bands like Stallion, Frantic or Chicken Riot. He released a couple of vinyls and demo tapes with them.

In the earliest 90’s he was inspired by the upcoming crossover and grunge music and he formed a band called X-Ray Jam. In three years he released two CDs (Dreams and Official Bootleg) through a local independent label.

His next stop was a very important one in his musical development. He formed a band called The Cash Money Brothers, together with Guido Conrad (today’s drummer of Leo Can Dive) and Chris Delas. After bringing out the legendary CD The adventures of the Cash Money Brothers, they played the first time in front of huge crowds up to 10.000 people. In 1998 the singer Olly Albrecht died in a car accident. After this tragic moment the left members decided to stop with the band!

Olaf Urban was then working as a studio musician and Chris Delas joined the band Faster But Slower. In 2005 FBS were searching for a guitarist and the guys came back together on stage. Up to now they are still playing the the same formation, supporting well known bands, as well as playing on big festival stages and releasing CDs worldwide! Faster But Slower is also backing up the solo project of Olaf Urban, presenting his songs on stage with him! His actual and first CD Six String Demonization is a result of all the experiences which are summarized in this info.
