A word of caution: If you listen to Old Avenue, its songs will stick with you. But unlike other annoying pop songs that get stuck in your head, the light, playful melodies of Old Avenue will make you bop your head and smile every time you hum them. Songs like "Miss Summertime" and "Hey There" from its new album "Knockin' On Doors" showcase crisp, clear guitar riffs that shine through a thickly blended rhythm section that are sure to catch your attention. Fans of the Dave Matthews Band take notice- there's a new group worth keeping an eye on. Formed in the summer of 2008, Old Avenue has all the elements of becoming one of those acts that crosses boundaries and bridges generational and cultural gaps. Combining the melodies of Greg Sullivan (vocals, keys), the natural flow of Mark Cloos (guitar), Sean Steigerwald (drums), and Cameron Conklin (bass), with Jason Hazinski on saxaphone, this band is stepping in the right direction toward fame. Their debut album, Knockin' on Doors, was recently introduced in December to a sold-out crowd at Deep South The Bar. The stand-out track on the CD is "It's Over, Right?". With a sound that can only be described as fun and fresh, infectious grooves that will make you dance, with melodies that were meant for sing alongs, Old Avenue is the essence of the upbeat happy tunes we've all been missing. As a four piece band with a great back story, each member will tell you that they feel fate brought them together.
Old Avenue has been causing a stir since summer, 2008 when their performance momentum picked up throughout the triangle area. Immediately after adding the final member to their current lineup, Old Avenue performed as the headlining band for STRUT '09 at the convention center as well as the Midtown Music series at North Hills with the Embers to a crowd of 10,000. These performances led to repeat and additional bookings throughout the triangle. Other performances include the grand opening of The Raleigh Amphitheatre with The Connells and opening for 5-time Grammy nominated band, Lifehouse, at NC State University for over 6,000 students.
Equally and independently amazing musicians, with talent well beyond their years, Old Avenue made waves with the release of their first full album. 'Knockin' on Doors' (Released December 3, 2009) is a refreshing break from the emotional angst that our youthful music lovers have been buried in for years. After touring locally and nationally, Old Avenue faced yet another member change with the resignation of the lead singer. After a short search, rhythm guitarist Mark Cloos stepped up to fill the void. He has proven himself well worthy of his new responsibilities, fronting a new level of Old Avenue performances.
The upbeat, catchy tunes that pour from the acoustic guitar and sing through the sound of the lead lines, immediately catch onlookers off guard. Old Avenue's music projects an "It's ok to smile. it's even ok to dance" attitude.
