Old Basford come across like the bastard offspring of Clutch and Queens of the Stone Age with a bit of ZZ Top thrown in for good measure.

Ransom is a bittersweet, acoustic affair that's more akin to those awesome ballads the Rolling Stones wrote when they first discovered Gram Parsons. The band's tuned down to wistful, and they keep the arrangements as simple and sparse as a pauper's funeral. I can't wait until something horrible happens to me, because Ransom's gonna be the soundtrack as I drown my sorrows. In the meantime, here's my impatient request for a full-length. - Stonerock.com
Sticking 'Red Mist' on it becomes instantly clear: this is magnificent, thrilling music. The band list Thin Lizzy and Tom Waits as influences and there is certainly a retro feel again - like it belongs to another era, one where they would be lauded as champions. Yet this is 2006, and those of us with the intelligence to appreciate the "stoner" sound will not be put off - the clean production and sheer quality of song makes this as relevant and good as anything going anyway.
To call this song superb would be an understatement. It's heart-warming, smile-inducing rock bliss. It makes me pull silly grinning faces, raise my arms aloft and see the light at the end of the drabbest of work days (describing ‘food in the fields’).

The success of Seasick Steve at almost every UK festival this summer shows that there’s a real appetite for Boogie music. Old Basford work to a similar groove but with a full band and a British influence they make the audience as frisky as dogs on heat.
