How many cups of coffee does it take to produce an Old Dead Bug CD? I'm not sure, but the next time you start thinking that psychedelic rock is an old dead genre, you should give a listen to their debut release Monkeys By Nature.
Whatever limitations their style throws at them, Old Dead Bug seem determined to beat back with liberating funk grooves and inexhaustible energy.
Old Dead Bug makes you remember that psychedelic rock first got popular because it was dangerous and reckless. The danger may be gone, but Old Dead Bug is as reckless as they come. - Santa Cruz Good Times

Though groove and shifting musical texture is the operative word for most everything on Monkeys By Nature, the music is full of clever rhythmic surprises and punchy soloing. The players in Old Dead Bug obviously have enough skill to jam for days- and they have enough restraint to turn out brief improvised statements instead of meaningless noodling. And Darren Home's bass lines every once in a while hint at some of reggae master Robbie Shakespeare's riddims. A great release equally suited for a bustling Saturday night on the town and a laid back Sunday afternoon at the beach. - San Jose Metro
