"Top Releases - 'In Dog Years', by Old Major"

As soon as they started talking about the "song writing" (or the modern "song-rayterstve"), I can not ignore another release ... The Canadian rock trio OLD MAJOR - not a new group. Created it in 2006, three musicians living in the vicinity of Toronto, Ontario. Eponymous debut album was released in the team only in the 2011th - militant "post-grungy" alternative with some influences of "stoner" music. Serious songwriting and performing potential trio was impossible not to notice. But it is fully opened on the second album "In Dog Years", which they released on their own a couple of days ago. If you like melodic and drayvovy alternative rock, the roots of which go back to the "grunge" and "stoner" tradition of the 90s - do not pass by! Of the nine new songs good half - voiced "hit militants" with catchy melodies, powerful dynamics, excellent riffovoy foundation filed with the arrangement and luxurious quality sound. Some moves subtly remind branded "song-rayterskie" things Josh Homme (Queens Of The Stone Age and Them Crooked Vultures), but, in general, a new job OLD MAJOR - a phenomenon quite individually. Professional managers of big show-business group with the album would have to make an instant rack. But as far as I know, this has not happened. "In Dog Years" published by the authors exclusively in digital format and is distributed free of charge. Recommended! - Russian Association of Independent Genres

Bio

The truth is, Old Major didn't start so much as a band as it did an art project. The Toronto-based power-trio conceived both their first song and identity as a supplement to singer/guitarist Mark Zerenyi's final film assignment(a music video) while finishing art school in 2007. However, he- along with drummer Joey Pavone and bassist Mike Kennedy- have been playing music together exclusively for over fourteen years. By 2010, they'd honed their sound with an initial catalogue of songs; heavy, rhythmic, and tight riff-rock, with progressive/stoner/oddball tendencies, laden with hooks, and laced with melodic pop sensibilities. Gigging rampantly, they quickly gained a reputation for their intense and energetic live shows. They are entirely a DIY outfit, producing both their self-titled debut(2011), and their sophomore record In Dog Years(2013), along with music videos and promotion. Always changing, Old Major craves to challenge indifference- by simply being different.
