Bio
Born in Toronto’s East Side at the tail end of the 20th Century and raised on grinding guitar and driving rhythms, this band has grown up to combine straightforward melodies with colourful stains of sonic dissonance to create a style dubbed ‘Jagged Rock’ by fans. Oldmandog has spent the last several years playing regular gigs in and around the Toronto, Ontario area, gaining a fan base and honing their style.
Despite a brief hiatus in performance during the early months of 2004 due to the loss of bass player Mike Sitar and subsequent departure of guitarist Austen Valentine (late of Shawn Hewitt’s band ‘The National Strike’), oldmandog has managed to adapt and continue with founding members Nick Kartzali - Guitar, Vocals, Songwriting - and Will Culbert – Drums – (also of ‘The National Strike’ & ‘Theresa’s Sound World’ fame) joined by newcomer Brendan Willis on bass. The new streamlined three piece formula has, while not detracting from the textural discordance oldmandog is founded upon, forced a more focused dedication to pure melody and song structure.
Since oldmandog’s reformation in the late spring of 2004, the band has played several gigs in Toronto and continues to write new material with the intention of recording during the spring/summer of 2005.
