Singer/songwriter Olivia Rudeen formerly of The Panic, a
local Alt-Rock act, has taken a giant step forward and is going
it solo. Olivia was 12 when she began performing locally and
at 19 has decided to go it alone and test the waters. “I want to
find my place in music, find out who I am; I can’t think of myself
doing anything else,” affirms Olivia, “My family has always
been very music oriented and I get a lot of drive from them. I
think this is the right direction for me to be moving in.”

The young lass has just released a five-song EP titled Until
Now, a nice blend of Americana/Folk/Pop songs that are well
worth listening to and a change of pace from the compositions
she was crafting in the past. “I want to be more of a storyteller
with the lyrics I pen,” says Olivia. “I want to write about emotion
and relationships through song, tell stories. I want my words to stick in people’s heads.” All of the songs will stick in your head – they blew me away when I gave the EP a spin. The last piece on the EP is titled “Austin,” and you never would have convinced me a 19-year-old crafted this song. The song has a melody and quality
about it that you would think would be beyond one so young. I loved the steel guitar – what a touch.

The young lady is already a veteran on the music scene, having opened for the likes of DeVotchKa, Air Dubai, Angie Stevens and The Wreck, to name a few, when she was with The Panic. This summer Olivia hit the road and did a coffee-shop tour with a couple of other performers, Prav Grant and Tommy Freed, playing Southwest and West Coast venues. “It was a great time, the shows were acoustic, we did seven shows in eight days,” chimes Olivia. Earlier in the summer she also performed a set at the People’s Fair to a very receptive crowd. “I wasn’t on the main stage, but it was my first time performing there. I’m looking forward to next year,” adds Olivia.

The damsel is a music business major. “I want to understand the business if this is what I’m going to do for a living,” states Olivia. “I’m also playing in another act called Straight Nerdy Like A Cool Kid, which is a piano-based Rock act – it’s a pretty cool outfit.”

This little lady has quite the work ethic and I have a feeling she is going to be around for quite some time to come. Check out the EP at OliviaRudeen.Bandcamp.com – the download is free through October. Give it a
spin – you won’t regret it.

We are the music-makers,
And we are the dreamers of dreams,
Wandering by lone sea-breakers,
And sitting by desolate streams;
World-losers and world-forsakers,
Of whom the pale moon gleams:
Yet we are the movers and shakers
Of the world for ever, it seems.

Biography
As a singer/songwriter based in Denver, Olivia reaches out to music fans with her emotional and intelligent songwriting and her unique voice. Olivia’s brand of upbeat Americana encompasses her love of country, pop, bluegrass, and folk.

Since the age of 12, Olivia has been performing and writing music. Her love of music goes back to the nights when her father used to sing her to sleep with his own personal brand of lullabies by The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Simon & Garfunkel, and James Taylor. The early exposure to great music helped Olivia find her own voice.

Olivia spent her high school years as the lead singer/guitarist/manager of Denver-based alternative rock quartet The Panic. The Panic achieved local success as an opener for hometown favorites such as DeVotchKa, Air Dubai, and Megan Burtt.

In 2010, Olivia recorded and self-released her debut solo EP, Until Now. This record was produced by Justin Peacock and recorded in Colorado at The Hook Factory and Monument Sound. The disc features five original songs with performances from some of Colorado's best musicians. Until Now is available on iTunes.

Since that release, Olivia has performed extensively in Colorado at venues such as The Mercury Café, Quixote’s True Blue, Surfside 7, The Rocket Room, Rock N Soul Café, and the D Note. She also completed a West Coast/Southwest summer tour and several shorter regional tours. Olivia was chosen to participate in the 2010 Capitol Hill People’s Fair.

In October, Olivia was selected to showcase at the Durango Songwriters Expo in Broomfield, CO; other showcasing artists included Rob Drabkin and Danielle Ate the Sandwich. For Olivia, 2011 will be a year of new music and a focus on performing live more than ever before.
