"8 off 8th Standouts"

This weeks free music buffet at Mercy Lounge was fun as usual, but this week two acts really stood out.

Omega Swan had me reminiscing of going to Buzz Fest as a youngin', just waiting for Slash to come out with the failed Velvet Revolver. Delivering booming grooves and plenty of wah-soaked guitar solos, Omega Swan had every long haired kid in a black t-shirt head banging. I even caught a woman who had to be over 70 air-drumming along. No matter what genres you’re inclined to, it’s hard to deny that Omega Swan can entertain. - The Deli Magazine

"Week In Pop"

Keeping up with the indie Nashville, Tennessee scene; Omega Swan recently dropped their video for "Planet Rad", courtesy of GemsOnVHS. Get rad and spiral into the surreality of this glimpse at a gig gone awry, as these alpha and omegas continue to prove that the Southern scene is comprised of something that defies convention rocks harder than some of their surrounding coastal based contemporaries and peers. Omega Swan's album OS-1 is available now on digital and wax via Bandcamp. Find Marcus Garceau, Mark Madison, William Burgess, and their cosmic friends out in their outer constellations for the best night you ever had, where time and freak flags fly, and these dudes come more alive than Frampton. - Impose Magazine

"Omega Swan OS-1 [Dual Review]"

Breaking out with their debut album OS-1, Omega Swan brings a smart mix of punk/groove/rock that should instantly grab the attention of a lot of Third Man and high energy punk fans!

"Planet Rad" rips open to start the album with a thick guitar riff that's surrounding a power punk drive on the drums and bass.
"Finally on Planet Rad, the best life you ever had" anchors the lyrical hook hinting at alien planets, spaceships, relationships and of course interstellar space travel.
A semi-cadence drum fill break occurs early in the song which is later mimicked by guitar and bass leading to a full blow syncopated outro ending.

Groove shows up early with a two track guitar structure featured within "Diggin'" that shapes the song into a layed back blues/rock feel. Not your typical verse, chorus, verse
approach to this track which attempts to blaze it's on lyrical rhyme scheme.
"You Can Dig It" and I do for the most part but would have liked to hear a little more rhythm section development that could have fattened up the pocket groove even more.

Sweet guitar lick, check! Melodic without being on overkill loop. Vocal mix is lacking a bit in overall volume/gain through my headphones but "Arrow Through My Brain" has a smart arrangement along with a crazy fun title.

Time to switch it up a little with "Luna". Another well placed guitar hook with a extremely tasteful "aye aye aye" that Ozzy might even approve of in his post Crazy Train years.
Falsetto vocals mix it up with a heavy jazz feel to the groove and sustained guitar chord selections.
"I wanna fly too, Luna" smacks of an Adam Levine meets Dave Mathews vocal approach which works but is quickly put in check with the "Whatcha mean, Whatcha mean, Whatcha mean" breakdown mid song.

Kicking straight blues with some serious vocal effect, "Crawling" takes a near synth guitar effect to the limit with nice punches and breaks. Really would have liked the vocal mix up more in this one too. Almost a five minute jam of great breaks and licks none the less.

Static-groove if such a concept could explain the intro to "Alien" album version. Note progressions that remind me of some great Living Colour riffs and solos back in the day
but still all original in execution. Vocal lines that mimic the guitar scale riffs in a cool Axle Rose-esque fashion at times. Static Space Groove/Rock, I'm sticking with that for this track.

Vicious Smile - Their modern blues infuses with their ‘70s rock style. Starts into slow modern blues, with the drum cymbals loudly clanging in the background. After the lyrics state the name of the song, the guitar goes into a fast spiral reminiscent of Zeppelin’s Dazed and Confused. As the song picks up more, a keyboard pops up onto the surface of the song for a brief time.

Magic Potion brings the party into the living room without Omega Swan being present. Some part of the body is bound to move along to the high energy melody. The melody has perfectly timed pauses - which in a live show, this will simply energizes the crowd more.
It’s fun, different and an excellent track to pump up the mood.

Get Along - It’s more a pop - rock feel. It’s one of their oldest songs they have played around Nashville and it is the true definition of house show. Get Along can liven up a party with the first five chords. The lyrics can easily get stuck in your head. Omega Swan finishes the song with a high energy guitar solo.

Full Moon - The recording of this song was in a different location and time for the band. It was one of their earliest recordings that hit ReverbNation. The song is different than the entire album combined. They hit a strong folk influence with girl harmonies and just guitar.
The song is more quiet and feeds off the poetic lyrics.

Live edition of Alien recorded at DeadHau5. - solidifies how this band got their start at house shows. The crowds energy is clearly heard in the first part of the song. It’s creepy - slow at first, with a a mimic “boom” sound to the crunchy guitar. In the middle a psychedelic guitar solo and heavy loud bass. It’s hard to believe at first that this song was a live recording. Just because it is well recorded and the music is as practiced and professional as their recorded version of Alien.

Omega Swan can create an energy during their live performances or playing through speakers at home, and the are masters at manipulating that energy. The album has
several influences from different genres but Omega Swan still manages to stay true to who they are - bringing the party to you. - GoodBammSho (Dallas)

"Omega Swan Rocks their way to Prominence"

Omega Swan rocks their way to prominence
A&E, Featured A&E — By Belmont Vision, Staff Writer, on October 8, 2012 at 3:35 pm

As Belmont rock group Omega Swan played as the final act in Belmont’s September Battle of the Bands, lead singer and guitarist Marcus Garceau leaned over the edge of the stage as he riffed through the final song’s guitar solo.

As more than 100 people danced in front of the stage, Garceau unapologetically dropped his guitar at the end of the set, causing massive feedback as the band walked off the stage.

“We like to keep the rock n’ roll antics alive,” Garceau said. “I’m talking about getting on the ground getting dirty, smashing stuff and getting in the crowd.”

Those types of shows have led the three-man group to grab the attention of many on Belmont’s campus. Known for their spontaneous acts on stage, energetic crowds and constant performances almost every weekend, “everyone was talking about Omega Swan” early in the semester, Garceau said.

The band met when Garceau transferred to Belmont last year. He and his roommate, drummer Mark Madison, met bass guitarist Will Burgess through a group of friends. After jam sessions with each other they formed their band, one the lead singer said “has the true essence of what rock n’ roll should be.”

And for them, rock ‘n’ roll still means some occasional shenanigans along the way.

During a guitar solo for their “Get Along” song, Garceau leaned against his amp at a house party. The amp fell over, crushing Garceau’s guitar and pulling the cables out of the wall – leaving the house with no power with around 100 people in it.

“Omega Swan – we are not just a band, we are a band and a party,” Madison, the drummer, said. “The energy at that show was insane.”

So far, that energy has also shown up online. Their music video for “Get Along” reached 10,000 views since released last summer, and their live video for their song “Magic Potion” also hit 3,000 views in three days.

On the Internet, one of the group’s most-used resources, the band is on Twitter, Facebook, Bandcamp, Spotify, Instagram, Reverbnation and blogs such as Goodmusicallday.

“We see the Internet as a huge part of promotion and free advertisement,” Garceau said. “Playing shows is a way to increase credibility. After a show we will see videos posted, people saying ‘oh that was a sick show, I’m definitely going to the next show.’”

Zach Luci , one of Omega Swan’s friends and biggest fans, goes to every one of their shows. He said he has started all of the mosh pits during their shows.

“Marcus, Mark and Will have incredible skills,” Luci said. “The energy in every show is amazing.”

Madison said the energy of the crowd is his favorite thing about playing a show.

“I just vibe off of it,” he said. “If the crowd is feeling it and raging, I’m having a great time. I would like to put my drums in the middle of the crowd and rock out with them.”

Now, Omega Swan is in the middle of recording their first eight track vinyl record which they plan to release by the end of this year. The band is also making a live album – Garceau said it will include a “combination of live recordings from underground shows.”

The band’s next show is at the Boulevard Music Shop on Oct. 19 with local group Aquaducks.

They are also playing a show with illusionist Sammy Cortino at the Hard Rock Café on October 29. Omega Swan played background cover songs for Cortino’s shows during the summer.

“Omega Swan is a group of talented group of guys,” Cortino said. “They are very spontaneous in getting theirselves out there in different ways.”

According to Burgess, the group is taking all of their early success in, even as the group still grows and expects to get even crazier.

“Omega Swan’s live shows are definitely the rowdiest show anyone will see in this area,” Garceau said. “We are very energetic and we are all about being rock ‘n’ roll and the rock ‘n’ roll antics. Anything can happen at any show.”

"Sammy Cortino & Omega Swan"

If The Flaming Lips performed magic, this is what their show would be like. Merge musical audience participation with stage illusions backed to the space rock of Omega Swan and Illusionist Sammy Cortino presents the Live Music & Magic Experience.

At their core, Cortino and Omega are classic revivalists. Cortino alludes to Harry Houdini and Harry Blackstone and Omega to Led Zeppelin and Jimi Hendrix. Both present their art in the most accessible channel possible, giving concertgoers easy grabs of magical and musical masters.
Raw. Live.Going against the mesh of cutting edge illusionists of today, Sammy Cortino is reviving the classics of magic presented in the spirit of the late Houdini and Harry Blackstone.

Omega Swan is a new wave of commercial rock based out of Nashville, Tennessee, producing a sound that is totally fresh and innovative. With influences from a variety of different musical styles, Omega fuses genres in a way that is modern yet vintage simultaneously. In the eyes of Omega Swan, the classic rock soul that was lost long ago needs rejuvenation, and with a mix of modern styles they have recreated a sound that the music scene has not seen in quite some time. Since the last savior of Rock music, Jack White, there haven’t been many groups to accurately produce the riffage once captured by legendary groups such as Led Zeppelin or the Jimi Hendrix Experience. Omega is on the road to becoming the next Rock n Roll band of this generation. But this being said, Omega does not just try to imitate these Rock groups of the past, rather they blend an array of modern styles to create something completely new. Their sound is one that can not be replicated, and with electronic guitar tones, grungy riffs, metal inspired power drumming and bluesy, storytelling vocals, Omega Swan delivers one of the most powerful and raw performances in the highly competitive Music City area.

"Omega Swan w. Planet Rad Sneak Attack"

Getting dirty, smashing items, keeping the energy high and getting in the crowd’s face, Omega Swan is well known to keep rock n’ roll alive during their performances.

“Omega Swan – we are just not a band, we are a band and a party,” Mark Madison, the drummer, said. “The energy at our shows is insane.”

We had the chance to sit down with the “power-trio” Omega Swan – Marcus Garceau, lead singer and guitarist, Will Burgess, bass and Mark Madison, the drummer –to talk to them about their self- titled first album releasing soon. For now, Omega Swan blessed us with a sneak peek into their album with their single “Planet Rad.”

Where did you guys record at?
MG: We recorded the whole record in Nashville, a couple of studios around town [like Ocean Way Studios] mainly we did it at Redac studios. It’s a studio our engineer Edsel Holden started. He started the studio in Alabama. It’s a home studio atmosphere there is no time schedule a really mellow atmosphere. We like to support local underground.

Is this Omega Swan’s first album?
MG: It was originally going to be a 4 or 5 song EP. Then we got it up to 10 songs, so we decided to do a full length record. We are just going to press it to vinyl. So it’s going to be brand new vinyl with a digital download for about $10.

What would be the theme throughout this album?
MG: Our sound really developed in house shows, that really cramped and really rowdy energetic-electric kind of feel. That is what we are trying to capture in our record. If you ever been to a show it’s really connecting with the audience through the music.

Can you describe your single “Planet Rad?”
MG: It’s a song that really gets the crowd going and produces big mosh pits. That energy from those shows is what we tried to capture into this single and throughout the whole album.

How long have you guys been working on this album?
MG: We started tracking in October, so about five months so far. We already have three songs online now, like “Magic Potion,” “Arrow Through my Brain,” and “Get Along.” So, the vinyl will have 10 songs on it and the digital download with have a few extra songs on it like “Get Along.”

When will the album be finished?
MG: I’m hoping for a digital release by mid-march and the vinyl release probably mid-April. Once the vinyl comes out we will do a release show.

We know Omega Swan is about Rock n’ Roll, is there any other genre influences in the album?
MG: The album touches on a lot of different aspects of music. It is a rock record. But, it touches on a bunch of different elements of rock. It touches the blues side, funk, hard rock, punk and a dream-pop type of feel on one of the songs. It’s definitely not the purest -sound of the blues. All those influences come together and they morph in their own way that is Omega.

MM: It’s not like three dudes trying to do all these genres, its three dudes putting Omega Swan’s own style on those genres.

What would you say you took away from making this album?
MG: This process has helped us for our live performances and really own our style. I know for me, I have learned a lot about producing with Edsel.

What sets Omega Swan apart from any other Nashville band?
MG: I think our performances and our fan base. Our fans are wild, we love them.

MM: Yeah, if our fans are going crazy – we are going crazy. If they are just standing there then our vibe will be the same. But, typically they are pretty crazy so it’s easy to get into that energetic vibe.

MG: I think we have the craziest fans in town. We would go to a few shows around town and there is typically a few people just standing around head banging. But, when we play shows for some reason people want to move. We do encourage that and that is what we bring to the table.

MM: We are not performing for them. We perform with the fans. - Eyes & Ears Media

"Omega Swan - Nashville 5"

Lockeland Springsteen review – May 16h, 2013 - mrmossonline
Back in the here and now, we’re digging up new spring/summer music, starting with Omega Swan - a local trio whose sound mixes blues with raw, heavy rock & roll. Comprising Marcus Garceau (guitar/vocals),Mark Madison (drums) and Will Burgess (bass), Omega Swan makes music unpretentious and unafraid of acid riffs or electric spirals; their songs twist and turn while managing to chug forward in kinetic motion. Their breed of blues isn’t about swampiness or dripping with molasses – instead, it’s fused with a classic rock sense of shred, a psychedelia that is more spinning-in-circles-acid-trip than starting-at-the-sky shroom coma. It’s fun, engaged listening – perfect for the warmer seasons when you pump your backyard full of sounds that keep the neighbors up well past midnight while you flip burgers, crack beers and crank tunes to pass the warm Tennessee nights.
They decided, for their Nashville Five, to share the Nashville locations most important and influential to them. Without further ado…

Omega Swan’s Nashville 5: The Most Influential Locations
1. Swan Lake – This is where Omega Swan started. Some may see it as just a beat up house on Hartford Drive, but to us this is probably the most meaningful piece of real estate on earth. Some absolutely legendary shows went down in that little one story house. Legendary. Anyone who was there at the time knows exactly what we mean. There was such a good energy there, parties were wild, bands were raging, the people were awesome. 90% of the friends and connections we have now were made at Swan Lake.
2. The Zombieshop (R.I.P) – Obviously the coolest venue that the world has ever seen. We were introduced to the Nashville underground rock scene there. Saw some WILD shows in its glory days, Ty Segall, Natural Child, Reid Magette, Couched, Blackbear & the Surf Bums. Most of the music we listen to came out of that moped shop. We are extremely grateful that we got to be a part of that place before they relocated to Fort Houston. Hail Brent Jackson and the Zombieshop team.
3. Redact Studios – Our new record, OS-1, was done at a bunch of studios in town, including RCA and Oceanway, but the majority of the hours were spent at Redact Studios with our producer Edsel Holden. By majority of the hours we mean a TON of hours. It’s a home studio right off of 21st, and the most important thing about being in the studio is being able to feel comfortable. Redact is one of the most relaxing places to “work.” Much love to Edsel Holden.
4. Gas Station Taco Stand @ Route 66 Nolensville – When we used to live at Swan Lake there was this gas station, Route 66, right down the road. Inside the gas station was this little taco/burrito place that on the outside looked like one of the more sketchier places you could ever eat at. But those tacos are heaven, especially on the days after house shows. Convenient, delicious, greasy, sketchy. What more can you ask for?
5. Planet Rad – This is our new home. After leaving Swan Lake (which was quite sad) we were lucky enough to upgrade to a new place where we all live together. Although there aren’t shows at Planet Rad like there were at Swan Lake, the jam sessions that go down at that house are incredible. So many people from different bands come through after shows, on the weekends, on their days off, and we will just make music all day. We read a lot into energies of people and places, and the energy at Planet Rad is impeccable. That idea of a group of awesome people that love life and music is what started our new artist co-op also called Planet Rad. You can check it out at www.planetradmusic.com. Come jam sometime O

Bio

At the crossroads of the Blues & Heavy Metal lie some of the most legendary Rock & Roll bands to ever walk to earth, and now Omega Swan will continue the legacy of Rock & Roll in this modern age. Marcus Garceau, Mark Madison, and William Burgess, the powerhouse trio dubbed Omega Swan from Nashville, TN, have sculpted a brand new image of modern Rock music, and they have quickly started to captivate audiences around the U.S.
“Music today is missing a very important element” Garceau says. “The deep blues. No ones got that anymore, granted it’s 2013. Rock & Roll just needs a little re-inventing.” Listen to Omega Swan’s debut album, OS-1, and you will hear exactly what Marcus is talking about. While rooted deep in the blues and classic rock, Omega’s sound brings in a vast array of new musical styles that are part of the modern culture. The debut touches on elements of rock, electronica, metal, funk & many other “genres” that you’ll have to hear to understand.
OS-1 carries with it the energy that Omega Swan brings to every live performance. Whether it be at a hot, steamy Nashville basement or a concert hall packed with thousands of people, the band puts on a show reminiscent of the glory days of Rock & Roll. This chaos was all channeled into the production of the record.
“The goal for the Omega record was to create something that truly captured what the band is all about” 23 year old drummer Mark Madison says. “Omega Swan isn’t just a band, we are a band and a party. The music gets it started, and we bring the high energy that takes things to another level. The album represents that in the best way possible.”
The effect provides OS-1 with raw power, captivating energy, and wonderful nostalgia for the fans who witnessed the madness Omega Swan brought to various basements during their rise. One can be teleported to a party on the moon when listening to space rock-anthem “Planet Rad” or the face-melting riffery on “Alien”. Other songs transcend the underground rock sound and portray the bands innovative musicianship, songs like “Arrow Through my Brain” and the ballad of the record titled “Luna”. OS-1 covers such a range of different sounds and styles, but one thing is for certain. Omega Swan, as young as they are, have developed their own sound that will be recognizable for ages to come.
To preserve the true essence of Rock & Roll, Omega Swan – OS-1 will be released to 12? vinyl, as well as on CD and digital formats. No matter which format you choose, the music will take you to a place few have reached. You may not be able to hear Marcus’s teeth grinding against his guitar strings, or feel the heat of the energy the band omits on stage, but you’ll get the idea. Omega Swan is on the road to becoming the next big Rock & Roll band of this modern generation. Join the movement.
