(NASHVILLE, Tennessee — July 2, 2012) “If I wasn’t an illusionist, I’d want to be a rock musician…” exclaims Sammy Cortino, when asked about his other artistic interest. Cortino is adapting to the area: merging his livelihood with his other love of music. On July 11th with Nashville powerhouse Omega Swan, he will bring a new concert format to Nashville that will blend the intensity of live rock music with the rawness of live magic, creating an unprecedented visual and aural experience. Instead of demanding a captive audience for the magic and using Omega Swan as a backing band; Cortino becomes the expressive medium of the music. He’s the visuals and the band is the backbone of the whole production. Audience participation is a key component of this performance, as Sammy has props crowd-surfed for inspection before performing magic with them. In some cases the audience sets the scene for each stage illusion using lights, balls, and other props. Cortino talks occasionally between routines in his set, but doesn’t guide the show with a traditional banter. For Sammy, working with Omega is a meeting of the minds. At their core, Cortino and Omega are classic revivalists. Cortino alludes to Harry Houdini and Harry Blackstone and Omega to Led Zeppelin and Jimi Hendrix. On July 17th, GoodMusicAllDay.Com (the number 1 college music blog on the internet) released their “Summer Madness Mixtape” in partnership with Toyota and Vibe magazine. Two months prior, Omega Swan’s first official music video for “Get Along” was featured in the Indie section of GoodMusicAllDay.com. The video had a great response and Tim Weber, CEO at GMAD gained a liking for the band. Since then Omega has been featured regularly on the site, and when Toyota approached Tim to release a partnered mix-tape, “Get Along” was added to the track list. Since it’s release, there have been over 35,000 downloads of the tape, and on a poll posted on GMAD’s facebook page Omega Swan’s was the 2nd favorite track on the list of many popular artists. Omega will keep working with the blog, and are currently working on booking shows and festivals, landing endorsements, and continuing to get Omega Swan’s music to the masses.

As Belmont rock group Omega Swan played as the final act in Belmont’s September Battle of the Bands, lead singer and guitarist Marcus Garceau leaned over the edge of the stage as he riffed through the final song’s guitar solo.

As more than 100 people danced in front of the stage, Garceau unapologetically dropped his guitar at the end of the set, causing massive feedback as the band walked off the stage.

That move is all part of the band’s act.

“We like to keep the rock n’ roll antics alive,” Garceau said. “I’m talking about getting on the ground getting dirty, smashing stuff and get in the crowd.”

Those types of shows have led the three-man group to grab the attention of many on Belmont’s campus. Known for their spontaneous acts on stage, energetic crowds and constant performances almost every weekend, “everyone was talking about Omega Swan” early in the semester, Garceau said.

The band met when Garceau transferred to Belmont last year. He and his roommate, drummer Mark Madison, met bass guitarist Will Burgess through a group of friends. After jam sessions with each other they formed their band, one the lead singer said “has the true essence of what rock n’ roll should be.”

And for them, rock ‘n’ roll still means some occasional shenanigans along the way.

During a guitar solo for their “Get Along” song, Garceau leaned against his amp at a house party. The amp fell over, crushing Garceau’s guitar and pulling the cables out of the wall – leaving the house with no power with around 100 people in it.

“Omega Swan – we are just not a band, we are a band and a party,” Madison, the drummer, said. “The energy at that show was insane.”

So far, that energy has also shown up online. Their music video for “Get Along” reached 10,000 views since released last summer, and their live video for their song “Magic Potion” also hit 3,000 views in three days.
