"Beau Powell and Chelsea Kerwath make up the acoustic duo known as Ominotago, playing Saturday, July 23, at Poor Richard's Pub in Manteo and Thursday, July 28, at Peppercorn's in Kill Devil Hills. With Powell, (24), on guitar and hand drums and Kerwath, (21), on guitar, bass, vocals, and hand drums, the Prince George County, Va.- based twosome has a repertoire worthy of a "Time-Life" series.
Sporting close harmonies and surprisingly thick instrumentation, the duo's remakes include Bruce Springsteen's 'I'm on Fire,' The Beatles' 'Dear Prudence,' Bob Marley's '3 Little Birds,' Led Zepplin's 'Going to California,' The White Stripes' 'There's No Home for You Here' and Stevie Wonder's 'Superstition.'
'We do a lot of songs not normally done acoustically," said Powell during a telephone interview. "We might even throw in a Dr. Dre song."
On stage, they also play some of their original folk-pop-rock-reggae tunes..."
