ON BEING HUMAN

"To Light the Coals of Hearts"

Temecula and Murrieta-based band On Being Human has proved that there's more to the live arena than just music. The band's lush and soundscapes, cinematic in scope, on the band's debut full-length, "To Light the Coals of Hearts," are only half of the story. In recent months the band has started performing the "On Being Human Experience" with visuals and more. It makes sense for a band inspired by video games, science fiction and fantasy.

Despite the wide array of sources, the band's musicality and lyrics are what makes On Being Human one to watch, particularly with songs like "Ceres XIV" and "White Gems in the Sky."

The band is planning a summer tour for 2011.

Bio

On Being Human formed in 2004 in Murrieta, CA, originally under the name Ocean Daybreak. The band consisted of John Sachs, Travis Baker, Jason Baker, Beau Trembly, Brandon Mayo and Johnny Pyburn. In 2006, lead vocalist John Sachs departed, and guitarist Travis Baker took over lead-vocal duties. Jason Baker also left the band and was replaced by Beau Trembly. Soon after, On Being Human was offered a chance to move to Hamburg, Germany and after six straight months of song-writing and pre-production, the band moved back to southern California to record their album "To Light the Coals of Hearts" in San Diego, meanwhile playing shows in the US. Mike Watts mixed and mastered the album in early 2010, and they were signed to Germany-based "Luma Records".

Stories have always been the main part of On Being Human's approach to lyrical writing. Many of their songs lyrics are based on the literary works of Ray Bradbury, George Orwell, and Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, and the classic Twilight Zone television show. The band's music is greatly influenced by their love of film score composers like Thomas Newman, Danny Elfman, Hans Zimmer and Michael Giacchino, and their love for video game composers like Nobuo Uematsu, Grant Kirkhope, Koji Kondo and David Wise. Additionally, Greg Johnson, Beau Trembly and Travis Baker have composed music for several video games and independent films, and they currently have their created music in games for the iPhone/iPad, Wii,and multiple flash-based games online, as well as several independent films and television commercials. These influences, coupled with their love of bands like Radiohead, Muse, Coldplay and Thrice, helped the band refine their unique style. On Being Human's sound is centered around melodic vocals, guitars, synthesizers, electronic beats, and orchestral elements dubbed "Adventure Rock," while still retaining a strong sense of hard-rock passion.
