Bio

On Bodies is a rock band consisting of voice, keys, bass and drums. Comprised of members Mark Harris, Sheena Hoszko and Brian Fauteux, the band combines raw vocal harmonies, piano and organ synths, pedal-laden bass, and kinetic drumming to compose heavy and sweeping compositions that have been described as "dark pop". The band has played a variety of shows in Montreal and Toronto, as well as Pop Montreal, Lickety Split Zine Launch, and the annual Art Matters festival. In 2007 they self-released a 5-song demo of early recordings (featuring founding drummer James Hamilton Harding) entitled Throat Demos.

Intrinsic to the band's approach is the ongoing process of finding a collaborative middle space between the diverse interests of each band member. On Bodies is the intersection between graduate studies in communications, feminist theory, Diamanda Galás, social sculpture, beer, PJ Harvey, rock music tropes and contradictions, queer performance, Sleater-Kinney, emotional freakouts...and the Terminator 2 theme song.

Currently, On Bodies is preparing to record a new batch of demos, as well as working on a multidisciplinary songwriting work called the Portrait Project. This collaborative artwork is based on a series of meetings/interviews with people around the city of Montreal about the notion of portraiture. This work gives participants an active role within the production of a song lyric while negotiating the limitations and problems found within this process. The Portrait Project reflects the intent of On Bodies to blur the lines between band, audience, and participant.
