Feeling a bit camera shy

On Cassette is comprised of three young musicians that over time formed together from a mutual love of music and old friendships that started in high school.

It all started when Matt Butcher and Chris Rae met up in August of 2003. Chris moved back to Orlando and joined Matt's band The Department . In October, after musical indifferences and the desire to remain a three-piece, Chris left the band. Chris strayed off into Orlando's scene searching for a band, until one night in December Matt called Chris and they rendezvoused for a night of whiskey drinking and song playing. Chris held on to a recording from that evening and labeled the band Extinct Inventions . In May of 2004, Chris and Matt met up again and liked the thought of writing music together again, and began writing songs. By July they had in roughly four practices written their first six songs. As time went on the need for a drummer escalated as excitement grew from the anxiety for wanting to play shows. James Valent, who was already devoted to his band Hurrah came into the picture and he was a perfect compliment to what was needed. The band wanted to be new and have the sense of a new beginning so they developed the name On Cassette.

By the end of March 2005 they had recorded two songs and released them on a 7inch single put out by Assayer Records. They also got the immediate attention of several artists and labels in Finland that have been talking of releasing 'on cassette' on cassette.
