Bio

Once A Pawn is a two-piece woman fronted punk/indie/alternative/rock band from Lincoln, NE. They have been playing music together for over 7 years and have been Once A Pawn formerly for 5 years. OAP has released 2 cds in the past 3 years, “This Way” EP, released in July of 2005 and “Do You Feel Like This?” full-length album in January of 2008. They have been touring now for a couple years around the west and midwest playing with a variety bands from all over the country. For being only a two-person band OAP has a full distinct sound unlike any other. Along with the uniqueness of their band, they play their hearts out and put on a high-energy show regardless.

“...the album is very high-energy and makes the listener want to get up and dance...

Scrivens and Balta are a dynamic team. Balta sings and plays drums, while Scrivens describes himself as a guitar player and dancer.

While many female punk rockers leave much to be desired, Balta's voice is extremely unique, with a little sass and an almost boyish sound to it.”

“Balta dons a headset for shows, becoming not only the beat, but the voice of Once a Pawn. Scrivens shreds and dances stage right.
Once a Pawn’s music has always been personal, and its new album, Do You Feel Like This?, burns with frustration and angst as Balta’s words ring out beautifully above Scrivens’ polished guitars. Her delivery is unrefined, and with no vocal training, Balta let’s her voice drift in-and-out of a near-Southern croon that has no equal among female vocalists.”
