Bio

One Band International features the music of three vocalists and five musicians who came together to deliver conscious lyrics. This fusion of distinctive talent brings over thirty-five years of combined experience to the music industry. OBI's goal is to enlighten as many as possible with lyrics that depict real life situations, struggles, and obstacles to overcome.

One Band International has gone through many evolutions over the past decade to become Connecticut's premiere reggae group. Originally known as the "Lightning Band" in the late 90's, they have opened for some of reggae's top performers such as Burning Spear, Sizzla, Morgan Heritage, Yellow Man and Maxi Priest just to name a few. In 2003, now known as "One Band", they released their debut album "Jah Inna We Heart" which featured sounds from Iyah Phanso, Owen Irie, Barney Rebel and Latissa Jackson with chart-topping songs like "Stand Up, Give A Little Love, Carry Us Over and Jah Inna We Heart". Which brings us to the present, known as One Band International(OBI).

The members of OBI hails from the West Indies and brings an array of talent that makes their sounds rootly grounded. Barney Rebel(Vocalist/Songwriter), is a native of St. Catherine, Jamaica who started out singing in a reggae hip hop group in Hartford, CT in the early 80's. Jamaican born Iyah Phonso(Vocalist/Songwriter) has been immersed in reggae music his entire life growing up in the poverty stricken village of Kingston, Jamaica. Owen Irie(Vocalist/Songwriter) was born and raised in Kingston, Jamaica. He has been singing for most of his life producing the smash hit "Good Morning Sunshine" in 1995. Wayne "Drummy" Williams(Drummer) represents Guyana and brings out that true authentic reggae style which sets him apart. Kenrick "Bassie" Sutton(Bass) hailing from St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands, a self taught musician, brings a free flowing and mellow vibe to the mix. David "Jummanee" Ritter(Rythm Guitar), also from St.Croix U.S. Virgin Islands, performed with several bands including Roots Alive of New York. His style can often be described as calm and carefree. Addis I(Keyboard), hails from St. John's, U.S. Virgin Islands, his musical career began as a steel drum player in his high school band.He left his tropical lifestyle and moved to the mainland in order to take his career to the next level.

OBI performs mostly original music, but have also played classics from Bob Marley, Dennis Brown and other world known reggae artist. Crowds are mesmerized by their unique style and charisma. OBI has fast become a reggae favorite at festivals and clubs. OBI has also backed international reggae artists such as Junior Reid of the popular roots reggae group Black Uhuru, Johnny Osbourne, Mikey General and Ras Iba.

OBI is not just a music group, but a movement promoting the message of love and unity thru the teachings of Rastafari. Giving Thanks and Praises unto the Most High Jah Rastafari.
