"Behind The Story"

o a while back I asked Jerry if he had anything that he needed reviewed, he told me he would send me something over. He sent me a link for a German pop punk band named One Mile Left. I didn’t have anything else I wanted to write about, plus Jerry buttered me up a bit by telling me they liked my Pennywise review. So I took a listen without knowing anything about them, and not reading their bio. From the first few bars all I could think was Blink 182 circa Enema of the State. The guitar and vocal melodies were eerily reminiscent, and I could only picture the webcam scene from American Pie where Jim is trying to get it on with Nadia and the guys from Blink 182 are watching with a monkey. Well the funny thing about that is that I later went back and read their bio that they sent and they mentioned being inspired by the pop-punk of The same time and actually mentioned American Pie as being an influence.
Don’t get me wrong, these guys aren’t carbon copies of Blink or anything like that, in fact they don’t have the same use of humor in their music, but when you listen to the music there is no doubt about the bands and time that the music was influenced by.
With all that said, I like them, maybe it is just nostalgia and longing for my younger years considering I turned 32 today but this is something I could listen to. I have loved pop-punk since the first time I heard “Longview” and this brings me back to those earlier years. Check them out, for fans of those late 90's pop-punk years they are definitely worth a listen. - Upstarter Punkreviews

"The High Rise Afternoon"

Currently sitting with an arm full of runny nose residue because the tissues are far and it’s easier to sit with my own sickness and listen to One Mile Left’s The High Rise Afternoon than it is to walk five feet to bathroom. Burning up like a Jonas Brother, I was surprised to hear the pop punk sounds of yesteryear on The High Rise Afternoon. It was more Blink than Wonder Years, and under all my sweat I felt like 14 year old me was reviewing this record.

It’s easy to spot the trends and play along. I don’t know how many bands I’ve compared to The Wonder Years in the past few years, but it’s been a plenty and I’m sure that was the case when Blink 182 hit the mainstream and people were reviewing pop punk bands over a decade ago, but it’s still hard for me to not note it. Anyways, songs like “You, Me And The Dealer Tonight” didn’t impress me much and every time the record played through, I mentally checked out when this one started. I’d like to add that I haven’t hit the (NyQuil) bottle yet. Then there’s “Jenny.” I had to ask myself if I enjoyed the one slow song on the EP, and after a couple listens, the consensus was yes. So I advise you to not hit “skip” when you reach the end.

The best tracks came from the start with “Fast Kills, Cheap Thrills” and towards the end with “I Want To Go Out With Saylor Twift.” More kudos to the one with the catchier title though. I’ll let you be the judge on that one and say that song had a line about hearts still beating that made me think of not Blink, but +44. Listen and make sure not to miss it. Was is purely an homage or a coincidence? Either way, these are the songs to check out to get the best feel for One Mile Left, in case you’re in a hurry or something.

If you have the time, then great…Check out One Mile Left if you’re into bands like Blink 182 (obviously) and MxPx. If you haven’t got the time and are into the aforementioned bands, then you better make time and get your hands on a copy of The High Rise Afternoon, out now. - Golden Mixtape

"The German Pop-Punk band One Mile Left never disappoints me, their past two releases blew me away, and they don’t even compare to how awesome this EP is!"

Alright, now for what you came for…

The first track ”Fast Kills, Cheap Thrills” starts off the album with a bang! Coming in with great unmistakable Pop-Punk music beats. When the vocals kick in, Mark Bezold (lead vocals) really displays how his voice has matured and bettered since their last albums.

The second track “Back In Town” starts out slowly then blasts back into the awesome up-beat tone of the EP. I lyrically love this song, it’s really relative and easy to apply to your own life. The lyrics are incredibly catchy and can get easily get stuck in your head (which might be a good or bad thing).

The third and fourth tracks “You, Me And The Dealer Tonight” and “I Want To Go Out With Saylor Twift” continue on with the poppy punk rock tone. Lyrically, the two albums speak to the teenage crowd, a band who’s listeners can understand in some way what the lyricist went through, makes for loyal and loving fans. Musically, the band doesn’t introduce anything new with these two tracks, but they’re original enough with the lyrics.

The fifth and final track “Jenny” has a much slower melodic sound to it. The song is again incredibly catchy, something I love in music. It’s a song about a girl by a pop punk band, so like always, it is sung more slowly and maturely. The song is About a memory of girl, it’s obviously relative to the male crowd of listeners.

Overall, amazing EP! The band has really out-done themselves with this album. So, if you love Pop-Punk, then get your friends, forget your ex and grab a slice of pizza and give these guys a listen! The EP drops 5/23/13 and can be downloaded here - punkreviews.net

Bio

After releasing their first demo in 2009 and playing some local shows, they started recording their first full length record in the summer of 2010.
Two years in the making, following one dream: To create a record independently with no record label, no producer involved that can keep up with legendary pop punk records like Blink 182’s Dude Ranch or Enema of The State and Sum 41’s All Killer No Filler..

Little did they know that they set out on a two year adventure. They extremely underestimated what it would take to get this thing done properly and after the recording sessions, which took place in two different studios, they realized that the sound wasn’t quite what they wanted.
Do it yourself was the new way to go, new equipment was bought and they started from scratch again in their former bedrooms which have become some sort of recording studio including a bed, a TV and most importantly a X-Box 360 with FIFA 12 in it by then. In order to keep people interested for their material the band started to cover famous Songs in Pop – Punk Style and gathered more and more fans. Their cover of Blink 182’s I Miss You has reached 150.000 views alone by the beginning of May 2013.

And in the summer of 2012 their first album “Behind The Story” was finally finished. Recorded and mixed by the band itself, mastered at the famous Panda Studios in Fremont, California, this are 15 songs show exactly what the band set out to do.
But they didn’t stop there. Shortly after the release they started working on new songs. In the meantime One Mile Left gave away all their Youtube Covers and B-Sides for free. The new material turned out to be different to the songs of their first release and really show One Mile Left developing their own style and sound new and exciting in an already overcrowded genre. The band teamed up with producer Achim Lindermeir at R.E.D Studios in Ulm, Germany and came out witht their best release so far: “The High Rise Afternoon – EP” was released in May 2013 as a free download.
Now after 5 years, 12 self-produced music videos and 3 albums, more and more people get into One Mile Left. 2013 could really be their year.
