Humble beginnings.
Onepercentyellow's music first began around festival campfires, and then as a modest internet collaboration with little more than fun as the intention. However, after meeting in person on the beaches of India, things took a turn. Within the first hour of first playing together, onepercentyellow was offered to play their first show and they haven't looked back since.
Consisting of Leslie Lindballe (ukulele) and Sean Hillaby (5-string banjo), onepercentyellow shares the vocal and songwriting duties and bring a unique sound to the Western Canadian music scene. They have billed themselves as a World Funkgrass act, singing in multiple languages and fusing World music with Appalachian string music. That been said, this sort of pretension is best left for the press kit. Sean and Leslie love music in all it's forms and it's highly contagious, bringing and an honest charm and fresh energy thats hard to find these days.
Coming from a "campfire touring" background, onepercentyellow carries a lot of disdain for the performer/audience distinction. It is rare the Sean leaves the campsite without his banjo or wash tub in hand, and Leslie roams armed with kazoos, shakers, melodicas and morchungas. This inclusiveness is brought to stage as well, local storeowners have been known to sell out of kazoos after a onepercentyellow show. Due to the ever growing commonplace of the ukulele in the hands of festival goers, Leslie has even thrown numerous impromptu ukulele workshops and is keen for the chance to advertise.
