"Prized Night for Proud Monkeys"

DUBBO band One Proud Monkey has won the right to perform at an upcoming cultural event in the city.

The local group, who have only been together for four months, received 1620 public votes in the Flix in the Stix competition, defeating numerous other musicians in the region.
Band members Clinton Hoy (vocals), Dallas Keenes (guitar), Tim Hosking and Dave Pedy have been friends for more than 15 years and all agreed that the contest would be a great stepping stone for the group and would be a chance to continue with their passion.
“These opportunities don’t come around much and we thought we would just approach it and see what happens,” Dallas said.
After only performing to small crowds in Dubbo, all the band members are really excited to be given the chance to play in front of hundreds of people at such a well-known event.
“Dubbo has a really healthy music scene at the moment and I think if you support local music in this town it will pay you back,” Clinton explained.
Supporters had the chance to vote on Facebook through the Flix in the Stix page and the band gained support from all over Australia and the world including the United States, United Kingdom and Western Australia.
“We had people voting from everywhere and then they gathered more of their friends to vote, it was a team effort,” Clinton said.
This year, Flix in the Stix will be held on the banks of the Macquarie River at Lazy River Estate on Friday, February 8.
There will be a fabulous line-up of incredible short films accompanied by a performance by one of Australia’s most loved music groups The Whitlams, along with stories from the hilarious bush bard and narrator Murray Hartin. One Proud Monkey will be opening the night at 7pm.
“It will be a great night, not only for the performance but on an entertainment level, it would be great to watch,” Clinton said.
One Proud Monkey is also donating 10c for every vote received to the Warrumbungle Shire Council Mayor’s Bushfire Appeal. - Dubbo Photo News

"No Monkey Business For Emerging Band"

THE MONKEY Bar was a fitting venue for a Dubbo band One Proud Monkey's first official gig - a group that is set to wow audiences at the upcoming Flix in the Stix.

Led by founding member Clinton Hoy, One Proud Monkey will be performing alongside Australian rock icons The Whitlams at the February 8 event to be held at Lazy River Estate.

Hoy said it would be an "awesome opportunity" to perform in front of hundreds of people at the event.

"There were a few sleepless nights for us as the voting had begun and it was so close when it was all finalised," he said.

"It's exciting that we'll be playing for a bigger crowd which is 1000 times bigger than anything else we've ever done... it's an unparalleled opportunity."

It was a "funny touchstone", according to Hoy that the band would be performing with The Whitlams, a group he remembered seeing as a student.

One Proud Monkey received 1600 votes and only just beat People's Palace who finished with 1515 from an online competition on the Flix in the Stix website.

Tickets are still available through Ticketek or the Dubbo Visitor Information?Centre.

Bio

So brace yourselves. The story of oneproudmonkey goes like this.
Clint wrote some songs. Clint played said songs everywhere and anywhere that people would listen for around 2 years. One day, Tim heard the songs and talked to Clint. It turned out that not only did Clint need a bass player but Tim was a bass player! Clint & Tim both knew Dallas so they waited about 7 months for no good reason and then asked him to play guitar. Clint, Dallas & Tim then talked about jamming for another 3 months before finally realising they needed a drummer and a place to jam. Killing two birds with one stone, Tim talked to Dave, who Clint and Dallas knew from way back in the day and Dave confirmed he did indeed have a drum set, a rehearsal space and the requisite skill and permissions to combine the two, thus oneproudmonkey was now a band.

Fresh from playing to a thousand people at Flix in the Stix, Dubbo band oneproudmonkey are ready for more. There's an EP out, an album coming and lots more happening in monkey land! Read, see and listen to more @ www.oneproudmonkey.com
