Bio

Tanya Winch arrived on the Austin scene with a longing for an organic experience, something that she found lacking in Los Angeles. She's come to the Lone Star state with her heart, and her guitar case, wide open.

Originally from the small town of Appleton, Wisconsin, Tanya is rural born and bred. Even after multiple successes in music and business in the big city, something sublime, something more important, was missing.
The desire for vintage pearl snaps and a siren song of the Southwest became impossible to ignore, and she has answered the call.

Tanya delivers original music that has the rootsy charm of country with surprising twists and changes reminiscent of the legendary songsmith, Carole King. She considers herself a songwriter first and has been the songwriting, vocal harmony and singing teacher with GirlGuitarAustin.com for the past three years.

Tanya and/or her music have appeared on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, MTV, CMT, Showtime, KLOS 95.5 Los Angeles (mainstream rock), and KXLU 89.9 Long Beach (ultra-hip underground). A previous incarnation of Tanya’s band was nominated, three years in a row, by Music Connection Magazine for “Best Unsigned Band.” It was also nominated for the Los Angeles Music Awards for “Best Alternative Band.”

For the past year, Tanya and the Rusty Tears have been playing a weekly Sunday extravaganza (7-9pm) at Opa! - where Oltorff meets South Lamar. The Rusty Tears include: Matt Giles on guitar (The Drakes, Toni Price), Doug Pegg on mandolin (Wyn Taylor, The Bigeegos) and Sanderson Poe on acoustic bass. Tanya's second solo CD entitled, Dirty Mercy, produced by Matt Giles / recorded and mixed by Ron Flynt, is set to be released in Oct of 2011.
