"A Poet's Experience That Will Linger Forever"

My name is Rosemarie Wilson aka One Single Rose. I am a singer, poet, spoken word artist, actress and playwright born and raised in the United States on the east-side of Detroit, Michigan. A product of the public school system, upon following my poetic passion, mentoring with students is one cause that I wholeheartedly embrace whenever these types of opportunities present themselves. Since my poetic journey began, I have had the distinct honor of performing in various cities in the United States and four countries. In August, 2015 I was one of several poets from various countries around the world selected to travel with the Kistrech Poetry Festival to Kenya, mentoring with students from elementary school age to university level. The youngsters that I met during my 10-day trip to Kenya were nothing short of amazing.

In the second grade, Rosemarie Wilson won her first poetry contest which provoked her love for poetry.  After a long hiatus from exploring poetry, graduating college and working a 9-5, she almost broke into the music business in 1999, but instead opted to place her songs on paper in poetic form a few years later.  She began writing poems for her first collection in 2005 and was given the pen name One Single Rose while editing a book for a very good friend.  Rosemarie then began promoting motivational poetry in 2007 and gave birth to her first baby, One Single Rose . . . Poetry Blossomed from a Rose Core on her birthday in 2009.  Her poetic journey began as a poet in 2009, but shifted into spoken word the following year.  Six years young from the first time she authored a full poetry collection, Rosemarie has been dubbed an inspirational poet.  Rosemarie is a triple threat--a singer with a seven octave range, a poet who writes nice and naughty poetry and an actress/playwright.  The journey she travels in these artistic genres has been amazing.

The emotional struggle of Rosemarie’s addition of spoken word performances into her repertoire was difficult.  After shedding fears of delivering her pieces on the mic, her spoken word journey officially took flight during her second performance in June 2010.  Two months later, on August 21, 2010 she was named 2010 Poetry Author of the Year and New & Upcoming Poet of the Year at the 1st Annual National Poetry Award ceremony in Raleigh, North Carolina.  In 2011, Rosemarie was nominated as Poetry Author of the Year with the National Poetry Awards—2014 marked her third nomination and her spoken word cd Poetic Truth was voted 2015 Poetry/Spoken Word Album of the Year with the National Poetry Awards.  Her poems have received honors in the Detroit Writers’ Guild Paul Laurence Dunbar Poetry Contest.  In 2010 “Eyes Back to Basics” won 1st place, “I’m Down To:” received honorable mention in 2012 and “Goliath Brown” received honorable mention in 2013.  Another of her love poems “As One” won a 2011 online Valentine’s Poetry Contest.  She receives frequent requests to pen poems for individuals and groups on various subject matters with empowerment for her sisters and domestic violence prevention on the forefront.  Rosemarie has also made national and international appearances ever since she stepped out on faith allowing poetry to pave her path.
