One Step Program

When I got an e-mail from Jason describing his “Electronic based - hiphop, dance, and funk - some of it just plain weird” project One Step Program, I was fully prepared to hate it. But once I started playing his incredibly earnest, strangely infectious tracks, I knew I had to know more. After my interview with Jason, I’m still not quite sure what to think, but I do know that he is out there, producing music he loves, and trying to spread the word. In my time knowing One Step Program, their work has always risen above the standards set for both the genre in which they records as well as of those set by many musicians in Austin, often referred to as "The Live Music Capital Of The World." The work of One Step Program evokes a sharp mixture of old-school simplicity in the beats with Zappa-meets-Kool Keith lyrical work where tongue is firmly planted in cheek. Production values aren't sacrificed whatsoever, as One Step Program’s recent LP "Three" provides clean, concise tones and levels.
