To date a handful of Demo recordings exist. There are a number of these on this site. The band has recordings of around 30 songs recoeded in rehearsal.
More recently the band has been working with Kevin Vanbergen who has worked with Nick Cave and Sade amoung many others. Kevin has very kindly remixed a number of the demos so that the world can really get an idea of the power of One Thousand Tons. The band is currently raising money to start putting out records with Kevin, but without a sponsor or industry help this is taking some time. One Thousand Tons is a 3 piece formed of Iain Exley on Guitar and vocals, Clive Dicker on Drums and Dan price on Bass guitar. The 3 were drawn together by their love of the rock genre.
Iain Exley and Clive Dicker have both played in numerous other bands over the years, but this is a First for bassist Dan Price who before turning his hand to studying Bach on bass guitar was a pro BMX rider who road world wide.
Iain Exley was part of the Brighton scene for many years playing with and socialisng with bands such as British Sea Power, The Eighties Matchbox B-line disaster, Electrelane, Lo fidelity Allstars, fatboy slim and Boy kill boy, During this period Iain was frontman for bands- The Madding Crowd, Platform and They came down from the trees. The later being spotted by John Peel but sadly John passed away before the band played his show.
Clive lived and played out of North London in a number of bands and also was a session player in a number of acts. Clive was most notably the drummer for the bands- 'some have fins' and 'Little hell'. The latter undertook a tour of the US and toured with Gary numan; playing the festival circuit including Reading and Glastonbury.
About the music: Iain has always fundamentally been the songwriter of the band due to being singer and guitarist but more recently the band has started including tracks written by Clive and Dan. The finished songs are always written and arranged by all 3 musicians as a live process in rehearsal.
When the band first formed, Iain had a collection of songs written alone with an empty but soulful sound taking in influences such John Cale, Nico, Joy division, Leonard Cohen, Patti Smith, and PJ Harvey. These influences can be heard in songs such as Fourteen MInutes, Corporate girl and Home of which demo recordings from early 2012 have been included on this site.
The material was gigged and warmly received, but the band was concerned that in a small town such as Hastings people needed excitement and slow elegant compositions were not right for the job. The band set to work on a faster more driving set that would seriously improve anyones night out.

You get the essence of Bach, Joy division, slint, Hendrix (on little wing). It is this detail that sets One Thousand Tons apart and makes them lasting, poinient, exciting and reflective of the times we live in.
